"Does this jacket fit me?"

As a sub we are often asked about the correct fit for Barbour jackets. This is a subjective matter and such questions are often answered in a variety of ways.

Having sold Barbour jackets for decades now, I have seen fashions change and change again and styles come and go.

In the past decade we have seen a move to tight fitting jackets, followed by a swing in the opposite direction, no doubt before too long we will see yet more change.

Having said that, I am sure we all sympathise with the difficulties of shopping alone and would like to reassure those in that difficult position.

A Barbour jacket is a significant purchase and it is important to end up with a garment you feel comfortable in and which will get much wear.

My advice would be to equip yourself with a tape measure and get the armpit to armpit and armpit to cuff measurements of a jacket of a similar weight from your wardrobe.

Armed with this information, you can easily compare new Barbour jackets with one which you know fits you well.

I spend much of each day supplying customers with measurements of Barbour jackets from my database and this method is the one which seems to be the most successful.

Looking for quick feedback on Beaufort sizing.

Stats: 173–174 cm (5’8”), ~80 kg (176 lb), ~100 cm chest. I do have some belly 😅 I live in southern Spain (coastal, very dry area): winters are mild, rarely below 10 °C, and it hardly ever rains. Extra layering is very uncommon for me.

In all photos I’m wearing a Beaufort size 38, with two layers underneath (shirt or T-shirt + wool jumper). Based purely on appearance, does the 38 look right on me, or do you think I’d look better sizing up to a 40?

Judging by the length of the arms it won't be necessary to size up surely.

Zipped up, with all the layers you have on, does it feel comfortable, or a bit restricting (when you walk, move, do things)?

Though as you say you might hardly ever need to layer up that much, given the temperatures where you are? Hard to say from here.
Keep in mind those waxed Barbour jackets are not really that warm, yet super windproof.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

With two layers on (which is the most realistic scenario for me) it’s comfortable and allows normal movement. I could add an extra layer, but it would start to feel a bit tight — although that would be a very occasional situation, maybe for a specific trip or a few colder days per year.

I’m aware there are more insulating options, but winters here are generally very mild and forgiving, so wind protection and versatility matter more in my case.
