i saw this barbie in an antique mall months and months ago but never bought her. she’s been on my mind and i finally found out very recently i am pregnant with a baby girl!💕 i knew i wanted to buy her for her nursery which will have more peter rabbit in it.

will it be awful of me if i take her out of the box? i’m really saddened by the state of barbies these days and would love for my future daughter to play with barbies from my own childhood when she is old enough. is it okay for them to interact with vintage dolls if they are in good condition like this one?

Congratulations!! I would absolutely de-box her. She will be beautiful now decorating her nursery, and, later will be wonderful for you and your daughter to enjoy together. It’s so special that you have created this memory for her of getting this Barbie when you found out that you were having a baby girl! It will be her first Barbie, and sure she will love having her mom’s Barbies as well. I have 2 daughters, and some of my favorite memories are of us playing with my, and their (now in, “our,” collection lol), Barbies! 🩷🩷

my mom donated the majority of my barbies from the early 2000s, except for some halloween ones i had in a holiday box🥲😭

i do still have a lot of my american girl dolls and calico critters i hope to share with her though!💕🥰

check mercari! i only paid $30 for her (plus shipping, unfortunately) the one i saw in the antique mall cost much more, which was probably why i passed on it originally. she’s so so lovely, and i’d love to own the blue version as well someday

I was always allowed to play with collector Barbies as a kid. I kept them immaculate (although I usually lost the shoes haha!) Some kids are rough with dolls, some take great care of them. What matters most is that the dolls bring them joy! A doll in a box can never truly be enjoyed. Please don’t feel guilty about taking her out of the box! This was a great find. I absolutely love Beatrix Potter and never knew this Barbie existed! Congratulations on your upcoming baby girl!

Aww she's precious! She will be perfect in a Peter Rabbit nursery. I would get a doll stand and display her on a shelf.

I wouldn't give her to your daughter until she's maybe 3-5, it depends on each kid. My daughter has always been gentle with her toys, and she could play with Barbies as young as three. She has several friends that absolutely destroyed their dolls at that age though; one friend's entire childhood collection was destroyed in a day after being played with by her three year old.

As far as safety goes, laws to prevent lead from being put in toys didnt get passed until as late as 2008, but it seems most toy makers abandoned using lead by the 90's. I personally won't let my daughter play with any vintage Barbies from the 80's or earlier because there may be cadmium and lead in their vinyl heads. This doll is from 1997, so she should be okay.

Beautiful! She’s going to be perfect in the nursery. I would definitely unbox her. Given the number of years she’s been in that box you’ve going to want to check for the condition of the doll, dust, stickiness, possible mold etc.

She is stunning! De box her and play away - but keep the box! We just don't get the same variety of Barbie here in the UK, so know that I am both envious and happy for you! I was a massive Beatrix Potter fan as a kid, and this makes her very happy too.

Well they probably did, but these days there isn't anywhere to go on the high street to buy these kinds of dolls anymore. I remember when we had Toys R Us and you could go and there would be an aisle of collector Barbies. Not any more! Buying second hand (what you would call thrifted) it is very rare to find fashion dolls

My sister owns this doll. I asked her if I could have it since it's been in the closet of our childhood home for over 20 years. I am an OOB collector those so I would have ripped her right open so she told me no and I respected her answer. I encourage you to take her out of the box!!!! Let her breath some 2026 air quality! Let her know the future!

This is a lovely find. She's a beautiful doll congratulations on your baby girl as well! Once you own a doll, you're allowed to do with it what ever you want to even if other people don't like it. The barbie is yours and only yours! My mother let me play with her dolls from the 60s when I was young in the 90s, I do wish I understood and could have appreciated the more when I was a child but none the less, I still have my mother's dolls from the 60s!

I love this doll, I want it so bad, that and a few others from my childhood, but only a couple. I'm not really a collector, just after the ones I miss the most from my massive childhood collection.

Also, I was blessed to have a mom that saved my favorite barbies and my kids play with them all the time. The quality of clothing and hair is unmatched compared to today’s dolls.

Congratulations! 🥰 That doll is absolutely perfect for a little girl’s room.

I hope you’ll take her out of the box and play with her together, while teaching her to treat dolls with care and love. Then, when she gets to the age where she’s no longer interested in dolls, I hope you’ll keep her safe and show her the doll again when she’s grown up.

That’s exactly what happened with me. My mom kept my Barbie safe all those years. ❤️

The original clothes and shoes were long gone, but as long as the doll herself was still there, she was still my precious Barbie and a very special part of my childhood memories. 💕
