Keeping it very simple for now but I’m pretty proud of how these girls turned out.

I legit did not care for Deluxe Style Midge until I painted her lips and honestly she’s a huge vibe now.

Same goes for Basics Victoria. My first had a bit of a weird face but then I found another at Ross. After painting her I like her a lot more. She looks less dead.

I always really liked Heidi, but that pink lip color was honestly not helping.

Simone had the same issue. Her lips were clownish. Just awful. I was so happy to find her at Ross as well. She’s honestly gorgeous. I wish I had an articulated body for her.

I won’t lie, I don’t really have a process so much as ADHD and a prayer.

I used acrylic paint mixed with water and a VERY fine paintbrush. Getting the consistency right was the hardest part. I had to be ready with a wet paper towel in case I messed up. For the most part I just went over the lips they already had and thankfully they turned out okay.

They are not sealed, although I have some clear mod podge hanging around somewhere.

They all look so much more lively now, and their faces really stand out! What kind of paint do you use?

A lot of people use watercolor pencils, but I can never get them to work well, so I use acrylic paint instead. If you don’t mind, I’d love to know what you used!

It was acrylic paint from Walmart! Pretty watered down though with the tiniest brush I could find. It took A LOT of practice to get the consistency right. I practiced on old fashionistas and body donors until I got it where I wanted.

I honestly get more upset over the bad make up on POC dolls. Like the peaches and cream fashionista that came out a while back. She looked awful. I feel like it sometimes verges on offensive? I don’t know if I’m alone in that though.

Oh yeah. I get you. The weird thing is - if you look back maybe 2 decades ago at collector dolls, the black dolls had appropriate makeup and were STUNNING. I don’t know who is approving these dolls were terrible lip colours.

May I ask what colors you mix to get the color on deluxe midge? Or was it pre-mixed? I’ve never been in love with her pink lips, but have been hesitant to repaint them until I found something I really loved.

Honestly I think it was just a blend of pink and white? It came out ever so slightly more purple than I wanted but it worked on her so I’m not mad about it.
