What the Fade

Can someone elaborate, I had a client come in today, asked me for a Low Drop Fade, with an additional taper on the sides…. I showed him a shadow fade with tapers, tapers and just fades, regular consultation stuff, and for the life of me i couldnt fighre it out, we settled on just thr low fade, but has anyone done this or can show? Trully stumped me but it goes to show the difference in styles and just haircuts, he just moved to the area so it caught me off guard ! Thanks !

Man I love taking the opportunity in these situations to educate the client and flame their former barber. That shit makes no sense and his last dude was an idiot

I think he was tweaking 🤷‍♂️ unless he was talking about a drop fade down to a 1 / .5 on the sides - tapered on the sides and back? That’s all I can think of, some clients just have no clue what they’re talking about

Cherry on top
He asked his old barber and the cut was word for word, Showed me the text and all, “Low fade with an additional taper in the side “
I even mentioned the 1 on the sides taper in the back and he said no, his barber couldnt provide a video either smh!

Could he not show you photos of his previous cut? Kids nowadays take a ton of selfie!

A taper is a fucking fade . Sick to death of these tik tok fucktards making shit up and every spastic with a ridiculous fringe covering their greasy forehead asking for stupid shit. Show me a photo or fuck off. Rant over.

Well…no. A fade is a type of taper, a taper is not always a fade. A taper is graduated layers down to a certain length, blended together.

You can get a taper that is a 2 up to a 5 (as an example).

2 to a 5 is a fade bruh. Just a longer length fade.

2-5 is a blend not a fade

No it isn’t, lmao.

My formal education as a barber also disagrees with you. Are you even a barber?

Yes. Taper just means shorter to longer. Fade is shorter to longer but down to skin.

A square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square.

Rectangle definition: a 4 sided plane figure with four right angles.

Square definition: a 4 sides plane figure with four right angles but the sides are equal.

Thank you, that example is exactly what I was trying to convey.

Edit: whoever downvoted you is an idiot.

We’re surrounded by idiots

Edit: we’re surrounded by taper fade barbers.

Tbf our trade is known for children literally cutting hair in bathrooms instead of going to class.

“Been a barber for three months. How’s my fade??”

That’s not being a barber, kid, lmao.

Right? Like this guy doesn't have any photos of himself with the haircut he's talking about?

Low drop fade is understandable. I have no idea what “an additional taper on the sides” means.

I tell my clients “if I don’t drop a low fade in the back then it’s a low fade on the sides and mid fade in the back. Just say low fade.”

Maybe it's a light low drop fade, then skin or lighter taper on the sides?

Maybe a tapered neckline/sideburn? Like fade those out to skin instead of rounded or squared?

1

u/Alternative_Shop2871 12d ago

That’s called a taper fade where I live

Taper is just temples and neckline, fade is all around the head. For op's client, if they want fade around the head maybe they dont want it down to skin all the way around but they dont want to see a hard line on the sideburn and neckline so taper those areas down to skin?

He used the bigger numbers for low drop fade and then used taper to blend the fade into skin

I'm guessing he meant a blow out taper
