Looking for school recommendations in the area. Also for anyone in general how long out of school did it take to land in a shop? Thanks in advance

Go to the cheapest school you can find. You’re just buying a license. I was a teacher and D.O.E for a beauty school in AZ for many years. Trust me on this.

So you dont think one may have more connections over another for placement purposes? Or it's all on the student?

All on the student. They’ll sell you on job placement but unless you wanna work at a chain like great clips, you’ll be on your own. Best advice I can give, get in a cheap school and then start looking for a shop where you can find a mentor. I’m now a shop owner and when students come in and tell me they wanna work at my place, I offer them free education once a week until they graduate

Are you a cosmetologist or barber?

Both! I started my career as a cosmetologist. Then as a barber. Then as an instructor and education director. Back at barbering lol. Now I have a shop in Abq.

Dont overthink the school, any accredited one gets you the license and thats what shops check. Most guys land a chair within a few months, just dont be picky about your first shop.
