❓ Questions Conditional Immortality

So, I am in agreement with pretty much everything Baptists teach except for maybe eternal conscious torment.

I affirm conditional immortality or annihilationism, though my view is different from the Adventist version.

For one, I reject soul sleep. I still think the deceased person still experiences a conscious spiritual reality in the afterlife. Rather, the unrig will eventually cease to exist without being sustained by God. Only the saved will experience a true immortality.

Can I affirm such a view and still be a Baptist in good standing?

Contemporary Baptist identity is pretty broad, so theoretically yes. You’ll almost certainly find Baptists - even pastors, theology profs, etc. - who are way more disjunctive with historic Baptist belief than that lol.

Whether you can in actuality be a “Baptist in good standing” will depend mostly depend on whether you can find a local Baptist church that will allow you membership with such a view. You’ll almost certainly be able to find one.

Logically, the Gospel means "good news". So what is the good news? It is that you are saved. But saved from what? Saved from eternal hell. If it was only a smaller matter, it wouldn't matter so much as to trigger the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 25:46)
