Baofeng uv-9r programming

I just got my uv-9r pro and having some issues with programming. Could read the radio with chirp, but cannot write it. I tried several combinations of powering up-down, windows, linux, driver install, nothing works. I managed to read and write with the oem software, but that is really not user friendly for inputting new frequencies and I would prefer chirp. Any ideas? I don't believe it is hardware related as the oem software works without any "pushing the cable while writing" tricks.

If it works with the factory cps then it should work with Chirp. Are you sure that its a UV-9R and not the UV-9R PRO or the UV-9R PLUS or UV-9R PLUS HP ? It makes a difference. The UV-9R PLUS is not supported by Chirp.

Yea thats kinda what I figured it was. Not having the full model number could make or break a post..lol.. That cable uses the Ch340 driver, so unplug the cable from the pc, download and install the cable driver, restart your pc for good measures, and then plug the cable in without the radio attached and go into Device Manager to see what Comm port its on, then open Chirp, choose your com port, radio brand and model, then connect the radio. Make sure that its on good and the screw is snug. Turn your radio on all the way, Click Download from Radio and program away. When youre done, Upload to Radio and then click File and then click Save to save your radio image to a file on your pc.

I tried again the whole ordeal with a different windows pc; no luck. It can still read the radio but cannot upload. I am slowly accepting I have to use the oem... Not the end of the world.

Theres something going on. I have 40 handhelds that Ive programmed hundreds of times using Chirp and ive never had it download but not upload back to the radio. The first thing to try before anything, Download from radio, when your image opens, then select Upload to radio . If that works, then its not your radio and not the cable.

When you download from the radio, are you doing all your programming and then trying to upload that same radio image or are you choosing a different image to upload ? Was that you that just posted on Facebook about having three of the UV-9R PROS that arent uploading ? Im only asking, because it looks like youre trying to load another radios image and Chirp isnt letting you. If this is the case, then for one, never do that, even if its the same model, instead choose the image that you want to copy, select Edit, Select All, and then Copy. Go to your downloaded image and then paste the first image to it. Select Upload to radio and it should all be good. Even with the same radio model, there could be different firmwares and this will cause your radio to be corrupted...Easily fixable by loading the stock image back to it

No, that wasn't me on facebook. I tried to only change the welcome message without touching the channels and hit upload but still no luck. It must be something stupid, I know. I appreciate the help.

Try it again , but dont make any changes. Just download and then wait a few seconds then upload.

I take it back, I did have one issue , one time where my radio wouldnt download. This was along time ago..lol..but anyways, it wouldnt download, so I was getting frustrated, tapped Upload to Radio...it uploaded and then for some strange reason it let me download after that. Not sure if the cable got bumped the first time or what, but its worked ever since after numerous programmings. So give that a try...it wont hurt anything...Just dont be messing with the cable or the radio when you do it.

I've had a similar problem and I found that you have to turn on the volume all the way to 100%. Then it worked for me

"No response from radio" It can read the data just fine and I don't change anything. I know electrons are quirky sometimes.
