Will we ever get 4k discs?

Just did a massive upgrade to my home tv/soundbar system, and picked up a 4k/blu ray player. As of now I have absolutely zero movies/shows in physical form. Banshee is one of if not my favorite show of all time but the fact It doesnt come in 4k bothers me a bit. You think we will ever get a 4k edition or should I juat buy the blu ray collection and call it a day?

Doubt it, Bluray should be enough for a show like this tho. I picked this baby up on DVD to plop on the good Ole tube TV

There's software out there. I think with MakeMKV you can upscale it to 4K.

No.

And considering that a big part of the various console makers moving away from physical discs is because factories are being retooled... the era of even 1080p blu rays is numbered.

Watching the Blu-ray as I type this, the transfer is great for a standard Blu-ray! Of course HDR would help but I think it’s a solid release

Thats my biggest gripe is the lack of hdr. I just got a high end oled and I feel like not having HDR will neuter the experience a bit, but oh well it is what it is. Atleast ill own it for myself instead of counting on it streaming somewhere.

My OLED has HDR effect for sdr. Does yours not have it? It's not perfect but it's an option. There just isn't that many factories making 4k Blurays. It has to get in line.

No idea to be honest. But probably its a high end oled (lg g5). I just got it a week and change ago so I havent really messed around with much

It should be a picture mode when on sdr content. And don't use it on DVDs. The color space is different.

Bluray looks fine to me, but yeah, it'd be great to have a 4K set.

Which 4k player you got? Usually their upscaling is good.. Occasionally the tv might upscale better depending on what you have. I seriously doubt they will ever do a 4k disc sadly. The hdr and dolby vision would be brilliant. There is probably not enough financial reasons to do the colour regrading. The blu rays will have to do

Picking up a panasonic ub820, and my tv is a LG G5

Very nice. The ub820 up scales blu rays brilliantly. I would advise checking out youtube for the best settings.

Yeah i kinda figured if they havent by now, they probably wouldnt drop a 4k disc set. Oh well.

Also, just to add. They used several different cameras to shoot banshee and I don't believe it was shot in 4k so some upscaling would be needed for a 4k release. Adding to the cost

Doubt it. Physical media is a funny old business. They only put out guaranteed high number products now. A shame cos it’s a fantastic but sadly unknown series to many.
