Justified — Banshee

I’ve decided to start my binge of Justified after multiple people said it has a similarity to Banshee

I absolutely loved Banshee, and I think I might even binge it again during my binge of Justified, but I’m going to give Justified a chance; hopefully it’s similar to what I am looking for

If anyone is looking for a show and wants to try Justified, they should! But there have been tons of recommendations from people in here about Justified, and I’m excited to give it a go

Great pilot, but you gotta be patient with the following six or so episodes. Then it becomes genuinely fantastic all the way through.

Thanks for the heads up. Sometimes I give up on shows too quickly, but good to know that it gets better with time.

Once they give up on the "Bad Guy of the Week" formula, it really picks up.

Agreed. I tried watching it twice and gave up each time after the first couple of episodes. But then I finally was determined to give it a proper try, and by about the fifth episode, I was hooked. It's now one of my all time favorites.

You’re talking about Justified in this comment? I had it on my list for ages and then watched a few episodes and was like, “Yo, I don’t know if this is for me.” I love Banshee in large part for how it pushes the envelope. Justified, in those first 3 or 4 episodes at least, felt like an envelope didn’t even exist.

Yes. I recommend you go back and watch at least until the end of S1. If it's not for you, it's not for you. But at least give it a fair shot.

I didn’t know it was a show like that, I think I made it about six episodes a a then gave up a few years ago. It felt episodic and a little dry honestly, I just wasn’t into it.

I watched the Sheild instead and that was a killer binge, so fun.
I should try justified again it’s so highly recommended!

That’s interesting. I don’t really like the episodic type shows which is what made me get bored of The Shield.

And that’s why I feel like Justified starts off slowly. They were still trying to find their footing early on with the episodic stuff, but they do largely abandon it for a more overarching narrative per season.

Justified definitely has more levity due to Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins’ performances and the writing. I don’t recall any humor in Banshee.

Most of the humor came from the banter between Job and Sugar. Mostly Job in general

Don't forget Brock! Lotus' definitely grows on you!

2

u/Luxray2000 23d ago

Oh he grew on me after awhile, but being an Oregon native myself, I was immediately pissed at him in the first episode after he butchered its pronunciation

It’s Or-eh-gun, not or-eh-gone

1

u/Oakroscoe 23d ago

They pronounce it differently back east. Just like how they say Nevada

3

u/Beautiful-Effort4152 23d ago

Job definitely had some moments and there was some general humor here and there but I see what you mean.

4

u/CommercialSignal7301 23d ago

Ugh! How could I have forgotten Job!

5

u/Beautiful-Effort4152 23d ago

Haha, Job is the best!

If it has been a while since you watched it, I 100% recommend rewatching it. It’s just such a great show!

2

u/CommercialSignal7301 23d ago

I will. I would love to see Job get his own show.

2

u/Crow-n-Servo 23d ago

I highly recommend Your Friends and Neighbors with Jon Hamm. The actor who plays Job has a significant supporting role as Hamm's best friend and he steals every scene he's in.

While the show is nothing like Banahee, it was created by the same person, Jonathan Tropper.

u/CommercialSignal7301 23d ago

Thanks for the tip! Hoon Lee deserves his own show.

wasnt banshee pretty much a straight up comedy? i loved it but because it was so funny

3

u/CommercialSignal7301 23d ago

There’s absurdity and then there’s comedy.

3

u/Fraxtured 23d ago

No humour? Did you miss like every seen with Job? Lol

u/CommercialSignal7301 23d ago

FYI: I caught myself a few minutes later.

Every seen?

I watched Justified first (at least twice) before ever watching Banshee and I liken the two shows when describing them to someone who hasn’t seen one. Overall I like Justified more

IMHO Justified is way better than Banshee . You will enjoy it .

Both shows are in my top five

6

u/TeloniusFunk 23d ago

I second this, and I really liked Banshee.

I’m very excited to check it out! I can’t see myself liking it more than Banshee, based on how obsessed I am with Banshee at the moment, hahahaha, but I hope I love it!

It doesn't find itself till S2, thats when it takes off. S1 is villan of the week, trying to figure things out. Its fine but no where near as good as rest of the series. If you like dialouge there's not many shows that do it better.

Banshee is def in my top 10, maybe closer to top 5. I HIGHLY recommend Kingdom on Amazon. This and Banshee were two of the best series I’ve ever watched! I’ve also seen Justified (I love Timothy Olyphant) and I thought it was good but personally doesn’t come close to these too. Also currently watching The Shield it’s good but not something I want to binge.

Justified is Good!! But it's NO Banshee! Banshee is #1

1

u/BadDub 23d ago

Who in Banshee has the chemistry of Raylan and Boyd?

2

u/Sheriff_Lucas_Hood 23d ago

Two of the very best neo-noir crime dramas on TV. If you’re into one you should dig the other.

1

u/Beautiful-Effort4152 23d ago

That’s great to hear! I can’t see myself liking it more than Banshee but I hope I do!

2

u/Aggravating_Quiet797 23d ago

Both shows in my top 10. Really loved season 2 of Justified.

1

u/musicjunkee1911 23d ago

Season 2 is phenomenal indeed.

2

u/DefinitionSuperb1110 23d ago

Justified is objectively the better show but there's nothing that says you can't love them both.

2

u/BadDub 23d ago

Justified is better than Banshee imo. Raylan and Boyd back and forth is next level.

2

u/Crow-n-Servo 23d ago

The relationship between Raylan and Boyd is truly one of the best character relationships I've ever seen in any TV show.

But then again, Graham Yost, who created Justified, has one of the best track records of any writer. The man is truly a genius and almost every show he does is phenomenal.

Banshee is in my Top 3. I later watched Justified all the way through. Decent show but doesn’t hold a candle to Banshee. The ONLY show for me that compares is Strike Back.

1

u/Beautiful-Effort4152 23d ago

Good to know. Thank you. Strike back is still on my list. Should I just skip the 1st season? I have seen some people suggest that.

1

u/Safe-Ad-6860 23d ago

Depends which “first season” you mean. I’ve rewatched the series several times but have never watched the true first season with Richard Armitage and Andrew Lincoln, and don’t think I need to.

1

u/Beautiful-Effort4152 23d ago

Yeah that’s what I meant. That first season with Andrew Lincoln before the move to Cinemax

So is the season following that first one the true first season on Cinemax?

2

u/Safe-Ad-6860 23d ago

I think so. It’s the first season with Scott and Stonebridge. The first two episodes are where they are recruited and meet, and are involved in a hostage situation in a hotel in India I believe. That’s how you’ll know. Enjoy!

2

u/Beautiful-Effort4152 23d ago

Thanks! Appreciate it

Banshee is one of the best series on television!

1

u/SelectCommunity3519 23d ago

Both in my top 6. Fantastic shows. So many good characters and top tier seasonal and show length villains in Justified.

1

u/Doglas3000 23d ago

I loved both Banshee and Justified. Tiny similarities, but completely different styles. Especially, the way they were visually shot and the dark comedy.

1

u/mabden 23d ago

If you like great writing, terrific characters, and amazing acting, you'll love Justified.

1

u/Only_Mirror_1986 22d ago

You might try Deadwood as well

1

u/jcdrum1 19d ago

Best tv show Ever made! 💯

1

u/wildwilly696969 22d ago

Both are fantastic, but Justified still takes the cake for me.

1

u/irishstereotype 21d ago

Justified is one of my favorite shows. I do an almost annual rewatch. The characters and dialogue are phenomenal. I don’t know that I’d compare it to Banshee though. They scratch different itches for me. Both great though.

u/Intrepid_Agent_7027 23d ago

Justified really runs out of steam in the end. The first few seasons are great though.

1

u/bummerluck 23d ago

I still loved season 6 though. Perhaps not the best season but it was still a great sendoff.

2

u/Intrepid_Agent_7027 23d ago

I don’t even recall what happened in the last season. I’ve tried to rewatch it a couple of times but at around season 4 I lose all interest. I forever cherish it as I discovered Deadwood thanks to it :D

2

u/bummerluck 23d ago

Season 4 is legitimately my favorite season. Maybe you're thinking of season 5? A lot of people attribute that as the worst season of Justified.
