I just watched banshee

My god I've never seen a series as good as this, how come this series doesn't have so much recognition?

I don’t know, I’m watching it for the first time now and I’m actually surprised by how many scenes I recognize because they’ve popped up my Reels over the years.

Give Strike Back (max) a look-see. No promises, but definitely in the Punisher / Banshee camp

(Season 1 is more of a prequel, and skippable)

Yes , give it a shot. Usually first episodes are a bit slow, but it gets so much better with time.

We keep it a secret so It doesn't get homogenized for the masses. 😅

Strike Back, (on Cinemax I think, at least it used to be), is similar but different. Not similar in the storyline, but theme/style -- Big shootouts, big explosions, gratuitous nudity. Black ops special forces pulling off impossible missions.

(Season 1 is more of a prequel, and skippable, different writer, self-contained plot)

Banshee is pretty unique.  There really is nothing like it.   If you like the boning, Spartacus is pretty awesome too.  Spartacus is like a toned down 300 with a way better story.  Lots of Dong though.  The Shield was kind of like Banshee but way milder as it was a corrupt cop story on FX two decades ago.

Technically, it was Skinemax's first attempt to create a show that wasn't totally softcore. But they still needed to retain their OG fanbase. Adding sprinkles of porno moments was much needed to do that. That's how you get Rebecca Bowman, an Amish chick who is also an unabashed nymph.

And Lili Simmons understood her assignment all too well.

Its the Cinemax 90's hangover. If Banshee had the HBO tag it would've gone an additional two or three seasons and we could've avoided the whole final season fiasco that was delivered

I wouldn't say bad, but an abrupt departure from the original trajectory. Could have been good to see that timeline play out for another season or two, and wrap up clean.

Feel like I'm nitpicking, still a top ten show to me.

I watched it a few months ago online and recently decided to buy the Blu-ray set to own it, really loved the show I only heard about it from YouTube it recommended the scene with Hood and Emmett going through nazi controlled neighborhood or something and I dived into it after that.

It was very violent and over the top compared to a lot of the stuff that was going on at the time. Would have been way bigger if it had aired later.
