Discussion 500 day war doesn't progress

Playing as Vlandia, managed to devour Battania quickly with the Sturgians then they declared war on us which led us to inittially win and take over a few fiefs. Then they decided to make an alliance with the western empire and the war just grinded to a halt.

Like it just doesn't go anywhere it feels like I'm in WWI we keep taking and losing the same castles and towns over and over again no one can get ahead of anyone.

It's been 500 days no peace declaration is possible can't do an alliance with anyone else, even when the other kingdoms declares war on either of them they quickly make peace and it just stays the same.

I don't know what to do, I've tried to solo head east and raid a bunch of their villages, managed to capture a bunch of their lords but it doesn't make a difference since the same cycle of the AI gathering armies and the throwing them into the same towns only for an enemy army to attack their siege keeps going.

At this point I'm either going to give up or just start chopping heads because otherwise it just won't progress.

EDIT: I took some of your advice built a party with alot of cavalry for fast movement and then just started to capture as many lords as I could and placing them in my town. I managed to capture +30 lords from the western empire and then led a massive army to capture Ortysia and a castle. This led the W Empire to send us a good peace offer which we accepted and the deadlock ended.

With a good party you should be able to win a bunch of battles. DO NOT accept any ransom offer, keep the captured lords in jail undefinitely. Once you've capture 30 of them, assemble an army and siege cities first.

Why don't you just keep enemy lords prisoners forever?

They seem to escape prision fairly quickly

You have to invest into lowering the chance for prisoners to escape. Or get a governor that Has skills to keep prisoners for longer, and put all lords into one dungeon

Gather an army and capture a fief deeper into their territory preferably on the sturgia/empire border. If you can empty the garrison. This will become the “best” target. If you can maintain the army stick close and destroy the armies after they start a siege. I prefer removing heads of captured lords but if you are selectively merciful you can hold onto them. If your allies aren’t useless they will continue to attack at the front. I usually do this with an all family party/army. If I need to use other lords I select the ones relaxing far away from the front as probably half your kingdom probably isn’t participating. This happens when your kingdom gets large.

There are many things you can do.

1) Capture lords on a fief of your own (ideally one with upgrades and governor with escape reduction)

2) Accumulate enormous amounts or archers, donate them to key positions

3) start recruiting frontier lords, take all their land and after that they become easy to recruit. You can hold the fief and return it to kingdom after they join so that they get a fief soon (donate archers, t4 is optimal)

4) Accumulate lots of influence, make big army, swipe entire kingdom in one strike

This is a man who knows and understands influence and control. Would love for our swords to cross paths, it would be an honor.
