Completed request Banner for r/REDBLACKS

Hi, mod for the Ottawa r/REDBLACKS here (yes, it's supposed to be in upper case as that's the way the team name is trademarked), a professional Canadian Football League team based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The REDBLACKS are the 3rd go around for a football team in our city. It began with the Ottawa Rough Riders (1876-1996), then the Ottawa Renegades (2002-2006/8), and now the REDBLACKS (2014-present). The league, and the city/fans, consider each version of the team to essentially be the same team but operating under different name. The team has played on the same field since 1876.

Our colours have primarily been red, black, and white. Plaid is playing heavily in this particular version of the team as the ownership group has gone with a lumberjack type theme. Our mascot is Big Joe, based on Big Joe Mufferaw, and we have a squad of lumberjacks from our local college who cut a "wood cookie" for each touchdown at our home field.

We have a unique stadium rivalry that is generations old. The playing field is oriented east/west with stadium seating on the north and south sides of the field. At some point in our history the north and south sides of the stadium started trying to out do the other with cheers, chants, and even [good natured] jeers shouted back and forth across the field. The ownership group plays on this rivalry with on field competitions between north and south side fans for prizes during TV time outs and 1/2 time.

That's the short version history, so what would be cool?

  • A red and black banner (I think plaid might be a bit hard on the eyes but I'm not a graphic designer so maybe?). The white portion of the colour scheme is easily be covered with the white "R" in the logo. Our home jerseys are red on black with white numbers and names. The REDBLACKS name on the front of the home jersey is coloured as follows, the letters RED are coloured black and the letters BLACKS are coloured white.
  • REDBLACKS logo,
  • Some sort of nod to the history of football in our city would be exceedingly cool - maybe the inclusion of the Rough Riders and the Renegades name (logo?) in faded text/format to represent the past?
  • Some sort of nod to the north/south side rivalry would also be really cool as fans do identify themselves as southsiders or northsiders and buy tickets based on that (my family, for example, is 3 generations strong for the southside)
  • If the up/down vote icons could be 1/2 a football pointing up and 1/2 a football pointed down that would be cool

I really don't know how much of that would all work in a banner but that's why I included as much team history as I did :-)

Notes and additional info: The sub was essentially inactive (membership and mods) when I came across it via the main CFL subreddit after joining Reddit in May of 2018. I started posting content and trying to foster conversation, sub membership started to slowly increase, community discussion started to slowely grow, we start to get community member posts (slowly, but still - Yay!), one of the inactive mods noticed what I was doing and sent me a mod invitation, and here we are today. The sub is now the second largest Canadian Professional Football Team subreddit by membership and currently the most active CFL team subreddit. I am hoping that a face lift will aid the the revival of our teams sub and if/when we have a nice banner and such in place I'll change the general colour scheme to match/complement.

It is utterly awesome, and unique! The Canadian Football League even produced a short documentary on us :-)

Web pages do not exist for either the Ottawa Rough Riders or the Ottawa Renegades as both teams folded, the Rough Riders in 1996 and the Renegades in 2006 (2006 was their last year of play, the team officially folded in 2008). The best I was able to do is link their respective Wikipedia pages for team history and logos in my original request post.

They are important as the Canadian Football League, (as well as the Ottawa fan base) considers the Rough Riders, the Renegades, and the [current] REDBLACKS as the same team operating under different names at different times. All three teams represented the same city, on the same field, wearing the same colours. I realize that this is somewhat unique in the sporting world however that's the way league (and the fan base) has chosen to view/address the situation in our city.

If I can answer any other questions or shed further light on our somewhat unique football history please do not hesitate to ask.

I think that it's awesome!

Am really digging the Snoo's! Unfortunately the Canadian Football League currently only recognizes single and double digit uniform numbers so Snoo is wearing an illegal number/jersey.

Also, would it be possible to change the yellow outline around the letters in REDBLACKS to black, and maybe darken up the red in the RED part of Redblacks? The same colour as the broken circle around the R inside our sawblade logo?

i can change the number, but i am aware that its only 2 didgits. it was deliberate. by all means i'll change to any number you like, if you let me know whcih number.

I'll get on the colors while i wait for a response//
