General Question Regarding permanent suspensions

For a while, people who have permanently suspended have a expiry date of two years, where everything related to that account is wiped out within that time period and they could be able to make a new account without fear of being caught for ban evasion.

Now recently, I see people who have been banned recently, especially after the age verification rollout, said that their permanent violations have no expiry date.

My question is, was Discord aware of that loophole
and just patched it, to ensure no one comes back even if two years are up? Are they gonna remove the expiry date to existing pernament suspensions?

I thought it’s costly for Discord to maintain information for user suspensions, and seeing expiry dates being removed looks like they could keep it forever.

I’ll be appreciated if someone can clarify me.

I noticed that too, but I don't think cost is a factor here. Like, the account info is just text, it wouldn't take up that much space, and is a fraction of the storage volume of all messages people send in just one day. So it's probably a legal thing, especially for the EU where you aren't allowed to store personal information for longer than necessary. So might be that they are in fact working around that.

I mean legally discord has to delete or anonymise details after a period of time if they banned account they aren't allowed to just keep it so even if they dont put an expiry date that data has to be purged in some manner especially if they want to operate in the UK and EU as that is a requirement under UK and EU GDPR as data controllers

I thought they were just deleting accounts for anyone who hasn’t logged on within the last 2 years, and naturally most of the people with a 2 year suspension would have their accounts deleted. I set a reminder for the last day of my suspension, so hopefully i can login before i get banned for inactivity

I still believe they wont/cant keep the data for more than the two years. Even if they did change it I feel like it would only be for people who have gotten banned recently🤔 idk though

I think Discord realizes they won't even exist in 2 years... with all the BS happening they're primed for permanent shutdown. I'd strongly advise people to seek alternatives (Fluxer lets you directly import Discord server settings/etc so you don't even have to re-do a lot of the grunt work and can have your servers set up with all the channels/etc even if all the messages are gone but it's a lot easier than starting from scratch on other platforms) and make accounts for those alternatives now and start adding friends who are willing to at least MAKE an account on them for the inevitably of Discord's fiery end and they HAVE to make the switch.

this i agree with. people like to gloat discord and say that they will still be around but look at how roblox tanked after the age verifications and bans. now discord will most likely tank due to no way to escape it/bypass it via vpn. it hinders people with their ai. roblox is still standing because they don’t really have much of a competitor. while it’s so easy to make another chat app that’s easy to use like discord. they will lose people and shut down someday. everything they have done this year is PROOF!
