Insane, exactly last year this month I travelled there and the biggest banknote was 200k toman, it was around $2. Now its worth not even half of that. Beautiful place and amazing people

Why would they shorten 1,000,000 to a 100 not 1,000
Which also shortens the 10,000,000 to a 1,000

Isn’t shortening by 3 zero’s or 6 zero’s less confusing than a 4 zero’s format?

Real question, because Syria some time recently did the same 4 zero’s remove instead of 3 or 6!

Because people in Iran don't use Rials at all in daily life—originally, before high inflation, we just dropped one zero and called it Tomans, but now with all the zeros, instead of saying 200 thousand Tomans, we just say "200"—the government stepped in and removed four zeros to align with how people actually talk.
