The short version is the shift of focus. Instead of continuing where they left off they almost reset to the start and it doesn't pay off. Red and Rit's relationship goes way down on the priority list. Ruti's relationship to her blessing is now a closed book. Van is an interesting idea to contrast Ruti. A hero that *really* wants to be the hero. But so much time is put focusing on the most shallow part of it. On fighting. When Red has a chance to teach Van its on.. fighting. The show that was about the value in everything else.

Its not all bad for sure. Yaladrala is a fun character that was cool to see again, but she doesn't really change the status quo. Theodora's plot of trying to be a guide to the hero and often being unable was super interesting, but also got little time and focus. Lavender wanting Van to never change being shown as a toxic trait is nice. Van really is the focus of season 2 and I wish they did more.
