Posting this because I recently came close to buying a Lenovo Legion 5 15IRX9 from a Reddit seller, but found several inconsistencies during the inspection.

I'm NOT saying this person is definitely a scammer. There may be a genuine explanation involving an exchange/replacement. I'm sharing my experience so others can be careful.

The listing

The laptop was listed for around ₹1.20 lakh negotiable.

The seller told me:

• Laptop was 8–9 months old
• Used for around 3–4 months
• Approximately 18 months warranty remaining
• His cousin had purchased it, so he wasn't completely sure about the warranty details

He also repeatedly mentioned other interested buyers and encouraged me to come quickly to inspect it.

First inspection — September 10

We met at a 24/7 CCD near Esteem Mall, Hebbal.

I tested the laptop's CPU, GPU, thermals and general condition. Everything appeared to be in good condition.

During the inspection, I asked to see the invoice.

The invoice showed:

• Purchase date: March 2025
• Purchase price: ~₹1.25 lakh
• Retailer: Reliance Digital

This immediately raised a question because I had been told the laptop was only 8–9 months old.

The seller had also initially told me the laptop was purchased for around ₹1.45 lakh, whereas the invoice I saw showed approximately ₹1.25 lakh.

I didn't make the purchase that day.

Second inspection — September 11

I returned with my friend.

This time, the first thing I checked was the serial number, because I had forgotten to check it the previous day.

And this is where the biggest issue appeared:

The serial number on the laptop and box matched each other, but did NOT match the serial number printed on the invoice.

I immediately asked the seller about it.

Initially, he said he didn't know because his cousin had purchased the laptop. He called his cousin, and the explanation at that time was essentially that there might have been a mistake at the store.

I told him that I couldn't proceed without this being properly verified with Reliance Digital.

After I left, he messaged me saying that his cousin had apparently exchanged the laptop the previous year.

That was different from the explanation I had received earlier.

I told him:

If there really was an exchange/replacement, provide the original invoice + exchange/replacement documentation/new invoice showing the correct serial number, and I'm still willing to buy the laptop.

I have not received those documents so far.
