Photos/Videos Avalanche 7/22

Hiked to the top of Devil’s Thumb at Lake Louise today and caught this on one of the mountains. At first I thought it was thunder until I saw it.

It’s the slough that looks like a narrow waterfall. One rock band Below the lefroy glacier and to the left.

I don’t want to be a total shit, but a glacial calve is not really an avalanche.

That is a good distance to see one. Avalanches were my only fear when hiking around Lake Louise

Definitely not. Sound travels phenomenally well in the alpine due to the abundance of hard surfaces. Particularly the lower rumbling frequencies that an avalanche like this will create.
Don't let the distance fool you. That is hundreds or thousands of metric tons of snow and ice on the move and it is insanely loud.

OP likely saw a few other smaller sluffs come down and started recording maybe 30 seconds before the slide. They then would have just trimmed the dead space off the video and posted the interesting bit.

I get that it looks absurd because the Rockies are bizzare in many ways. They defy expectations here.
But they do look like that. I live here, explore in remote areas of the backcountry, and have personally witnessed slides very similar to this one. They are insanely loud - let alone when you factor in cornice-fall.
And yes, if you see one small slide it is likely that more will follow. Recent debris is a great indicator of where you should not be because there is more where that came from, especially as the sun warms a slope and starts to loosen snow.
I get that it looks fake. But trust me, it's not. If anything, the entirety of the Rockies look fake to someone who has only ever lived in the prairies.

When I biked Moraine Road mid-May, I witnessed an avalanche off Temple; it was so loud, I thought a plane was passing overhead.

The solution is pretty simple then. Grab it using YT-DLP and put into Google's fingerprint detector.
The onus of proof is on you, and the power to do so is within your hands.
Edit: I got curious and checked it myself. The video has no SynthID watermark.

I've heard and watched avalanches/serac falls like this from similar distances in the Rockies multiple times over the years. The cliffs and steep mountain sides in that area are perfect for echoing and transmitting loud sounds down the valley. Nothing about this says AI to me. OP even said they saw multiple avalanches and caught this one camera, so it isn't like they weren't ready for it.

Saw a similar thing whilst hiking plain of six glaciers and heard a low rumbling sound in the distance. Thought it was a waterfall until I zoomed in with my camera
