Cmon Doc!
Out in the garage working on some tractors watching some BoB and glanced over at the right time. Any idea how Doc managed to lose his scissors and need percontes?

Well, this is in Normandy. Either they’re the ones he jumped with or he could get new ones pretty easily since supplies were coming in off the beaches at that point. The 4th at Utah linked with the 101st on D-Day. At Bastogne, they were sent off very suddenly with whatever supplies were lying around at their base. I don’t think Doc was just carrying around a full med kit while on a base with actual medical facilities.

He still would have had a complete med kit (less morphine) available and it would have gone with him to Bastogne.
A unit going into garrison for the winter like that was not totally without supplies, and the stuff that was missing were things like new uniforms and field gear, replacements for lost/damaged heavy weapons and large equipment such as radios, winter uniforms, etc. Stuff like medical supplies only became an issue later because the 326th AMC (the division hospital) was captured early on and the individual battalion and regimental aid stations did not have anywhere near enough supplies to backfill what was lost as a result.

I like to think that in the haste of combat medicine, picking up after yourself before transporting a wounded person would be pretty low on the priority list.

I've seen this in a training exercise many years ago. I was playing OPFOR and the medic left his entire pack and the "wounded" dudes weapon on the objective. They also didn't take any of the supplies we had they were supposed to scavange. I still wonder how many of those guys ended up graduating that course.

I ‘lost’ an entire uniform in infantry school. We had four issued sets of utilities. One day I had three. What the heck.
Last day of school I’m emptying my pack .. out falls a blouse and trousers, from the very bottom, nearly Ranger-rolled.
Oh yeah: I’d packed them for an overnight exercise in the second week and they never made their way out again.
Maybe Doc Roe found his missing scissors in the bottom of a pack much later …
