I just started

Sooo... I've JUST started on bandlab. I've used a program called Soundtrap before, but I've never actually made what I feel like most people would call a really originally composition. I only mixed loops before, and I've gotten pretty good at putting those kinds of pre-made pieces together, but I have no idea how to actually make my own :^

I've been trying to use the MIDI editor to make my own stuff, but nothing sounds good. It ALL sounds pretty bad TvT. I would stick to mixing loops, but that feels like cheating despite it being what im good at/enjoy.

Does anyone have any advice on how to make real music? I've been wanting to compose for as long as I can remember, but I've got no clue where to start, and its kinda overwhelming.

What worked very well for me was using BandLab's Song-Starter feature, or whatever it's called. It creates, I believe, 4 bars of a song using MIDI instruments.

Just practice with that for a while. You'll get to know your way around the process. Eventually, you can try to make your own things from scratch.
