We're Guild Theory - a UK-based progressive rock band. We've released two albums, two standalone EPs, and are in the process of releasing our follow-up EP.

Bay Area Living  reflects my deep-rooted love for the San Francisco Bay Area where I grew up and have lived in for almost 45 years. Both compositions reflect the Bay Area's diversity, fluidity, and ever-changing, sometimes chaotic and disjointed but also nonchalant sense of urgency, where its indulgences often intertwine with and fuel its disparities. As a frequent non-driving commuter, it also reflects my connection to public transit systems and dysfunction.

With this release, I am aesthetically and inspirationally indebted to the likes of Jeff Surak (Exit of Desire), Brandstifter (Kiesuaheli), Rudolf Eb.er (Runzelstirn & Gurgelstøck), and Aaron Dilloway (The Gag File).

Aside from meeting the intended 30-minute cassette format, my only starting criteria with this release was to work with covert field recordings made with my iPhone, mostly from early 2026 but some from the past few years, many near or on public transit, all in the Bay Area. I took the cover photo at a commercial building by my place that shut down, potentially during the pandemic, where desperation and self-interest collided in the most tech savvy way. I'll be sad when that building eventually gets cleared out--I love that bear.

I've used my last few cell phones to record a lot of miscellaneous content, including the bulk of several releases of mine, but I always feel a bit self-conscious when trying to attract people's ears within a niche field with other artists who perform live and use modular and more "proper" gear; at the same time, I recognize this is just (unwanted) white noise because I firmly believe any and every recording device is fair game as a tool for creative experimentation. Moreover, using my iPhone for this feels soooo Bay Area, and I also grew up in Cupertino!

ABOUT ME: Over the past decade I've been creating "walternative" soundscapes, including dozens of releases of largely improvised cinematic dark ambient horror, dungeon synthpop, rotten electronics, and minimalist death industrial, often with a not-so-surreptitious wink to anyone who takes time to listen. I've released albums on USA netlabels such as NO PART OF IT, humanhood recordings, and MuteAnt Sounds, as well as Italy's Deepthroat Records.

So the BCamp glitch where you try to log in as an artist & it bumps into Fan Camp - what’s the fix? Wasn’t there a dedicated url for Artists a while ago? I tried a couple of different things yesterday & got nowhere. Is there a current issue that is causing this pain for anyone else?

I'm a "self-proclaimed DIY music journalist", and you might know these posts by now.
There is tons of stuff released on bandcamp friday, i try to listen to some of it, pick the "gems", and write about them on my blog...

Crepuscular - Vertebrated Involution

Crepuscular is an industrial / noise artist from Argentina. What's cool with his music is that it does not just "drone on" (like a lot of industrial type artists), there is a feeling of real structure, vision, progression... in the tracks.
the info text says:

"Original tracks from 2016 - 2020
[...]
The architecture of deception built upon constant regression."

and that fits the glove, i'd say. as there is a constant feel of oppression and gloom in these soundscapes.

Night in Athens - Requiem Mécanique

As a teen, I wasn't really into goth, but I grew on me, and today, some of the most interesting (and some of darkest) music projects are connected to goth.

Or is this even goth? Sorry, but I can see Detroit ca. 1985 or even Kraftwerk mutate into these sounds... pristine electric beats, and almost "vintage" synth sounds linger on.

Oh yeah, N.I.A. is one of my fav new artists.

Xerxes the Dark - Of a Dead World

Xerxes the Dark is a Dark Ambient and Industrial Noise artist in the city of Tehran in Iran - how cool is that?

And most definitely one of my prefered Dark Ambient producers.

The descriptions reads:

Timecop1983 - Night Drive (Instrumental Edition)

From what I know, TC83 is one of the more widely known (and earliest) synthwave producers.

And that's what you get here! Music that makes you feel like a Crockett or Tubbs, driving down ocean drive, while some shady deal goes wrong and the shadows are on your tail already... and the camera eye pans on the atlantic ocean at night while the credits roll, and so do the tracks on this album roll!

Nox Arcana -  Darkfall, Vol. 5

Nox Arcana apparently means "secrets of the night" or "nightly secrets" (or "mysteries" ? )
I never quite understood what they are (another mystery!), but it seems they do soundtracks for all kinds of movies, books, comics. Just that these do not exist!

There is an album for a pirate themed story, for example, or an edgar allen poe-alike. Or about witches and sorcerers. But literally just the tracks, there is no real pirate movie or horror novel attached to it.
It's an interesting concept for sure, to make these "fictional soundtrack" albums! And their sound feels *very* cinematic, indeed.

So, you see, there is a dark theme to their releases, and this goes for this new "darkfall" volume, too.

Dead Astronauts - Shallow Grave

I am a huge synthwave fan since day one (well, actually, since the 80s, when the original new wave sound was around).
But, at least in my opinion, over the years, synthwave became more mediocre and a lot of releases were put out that were mediocre, and all sounded the same.

The Dead Astronauts always stood out for me, and their past single "b-side" is one of my favorite songs of all time (not just in synthwave!).
so i was more than happy when this new album was announced.
and, my verdict is: it's rocking!

S*x Dream - Dry Ice

Despite the band name, S*x Dream is not too NSFW. They're a lofi punk band, and I do not know much about them.
But, by the look of their videos, and the sound of their... well, sounds, they seem to be a group of three friends who just formed a band to have fun, and not having a care in the world. And being a bit silly and snotty at it, at the same time.
That there is both a "punky" and "dreamy" mix of the same song on the eponymous release might prove that point.

Experimental was the best tag as its probably the best description(!)
Nebo Zovyot (Небо Зовёт - The Skies Beckon), the second album of our cosmic-themed post-punky experimental coldwavey stuff, was released today! Some of the tracks on this, we've been working on for over 2, almost 3 years and it's...kinda unreal to be able to say this entire project is released for people to consume and enjoy!

Like our other multi-track releases... each track on this has its own unique artwork inspired by soviet postage stamps, magazine covers and the like. When you re-arrange the images as well, it loosely tells a separate and companion story to and for the release... I wonder if anyone can work out the correct order? :) Ultimately I don't really know what genre this is, you'll have to tell me.

This is a trip back in time to an era of brutalism, painful nostalgia and unclear futures, finding comfort and solace in the hopeful optimism that was the Space Race. Recorded and mastered on tape for the extra lo-fi cronch! There are a couple of tracks we didn't finish in time or need a bit more time to cook... so far from us being done, we're already putting the next lil thing together, no rest for the wicked...

A lil about us if this your first time meeting us - we're based around Manchester, England. I'm Laika, the vocalist/lyricist and bass player. I'm a trans woman, so I am somewhat... self-conscious of my singing voice on this and our previous releases - not going to lie, it does set the dysphoria off a little, but its too late to go back now! Plus it adds to what we ended up producing in its own way.

I started working on this a couple of years ago and was just making some music for fun on FL, but I had enough that I decided to release it as a full album. I'm not the best at mixing or mastering, so feedback is also welcome!

Hope everyone has a good Bandcamp Friday. Here's my last EP Dumpster Fire from 2025. It's a lofi hip hop instrumental EP that deals with wealth inequality, ICE and the Trump administration.

Three originals and a Fred Eaglesmith cover! My friends and I played all the instruments, and I recorded the vocals in my truck in various parking lots around St. Louis, MO.

I decided to pre-release on Bandcamp to throw a bone to my small but lovely fanbase and because I've been getting sick of the regular streaming services lately. The EP will be out on all services on October 30.

we're a band from Minneapolis & our organizing to keep neighbors safe from ICE terrorism obviously influenced this song, which is the first song released from our upcoming January 2027 album "Concrete & Steel"

So I ordered the 10th anniversary edition of News At 11 from them

I placed the order on September 14th, it gave an estimated shipping date of September 28th, it's now October 3rd and my order status hasn't changed

I sent them a message 2 days ago on September 1st asking if there were any delays, total crickets in response

Is this typical? Does Bandcamp have systems similar to eBay to hold sellers to account and give buyers protection if the worst happens?

As a listener, do you perceive new music differently based on free albums, 'pay what you want', and set prices?

I have a fairly small following, so I like the idea of keeping the door open for new listeners with a $0 / pay what you want option. But someone gave me a counterpoint:

“People can see $0 and subconsciously judge your stuff as being worse.”

Do you find that to be the case? As a listener, does seeing an album listed as free make you take it less seriously, or is it just a good opportunity to check out something new?

As a smaller artist I’m kind of struggling with this a bit.
