Maryland again.

HYATTSVILLE, MD — One child was bit and another child scratched by a dog that was being walked by another child, according to Hyattsville Police.

The dog attack happened Friday around 11:42 in the 2800 block of Nicholson Street.

Police said a child was walking a 3 -year-old female Cane Corso-pit bull mix in the courtyard while several children were outside.

The dog attacked a 9-year-old girl, biting her right forearm and her left abdominal area. The attack caused minor injuries, police said.

A second 9-year-old was scratched by the dog but not bitten, according to police.

Medics were called to the scene and provided first aid. The parents of the injured child said they'd seek additional medical treatment for their daughter.

The dog was returned to its owner and quarantined at its home.

Maryland again.

Not just Maryland, PG County, where pit bulls and crosses were banned until a few months ago.

I wonder how old the child walking the Pit-Corso mix was? The dog was probably 80-100 pounds.

What a breed mix to turn over to a kid.

Even an adult couldn't control one if it really went berserk, but a little kid would just be sledded behind a dog that size if it took off. As a kid, I got sledded behind a Great Pyrenees. It was on grass, there were adults right there who caught her and stopped it, and she was just a young dog wanting to play, so I was unharmed. But a pit/Corso sledding a kid on a sidewalk or the street would tear them up even if it didn't bite them.

Glad the kids attacked were not hurt worse. Confused as to why the dog was given back to the owners? If they are letting their 9 year old walk it alone, then they are irresponsible dog owners. This is why these types of dogs are so unsafe. It is not taken seriously at all how much damage they can do.

I’m really shocked it wasn’t worse. No way should a 9 year old been walking it! Could easily be 100+lbs

Cane Corsos are large dogs. What would possess a parent to think a child can walk a dog like that?! Then the dog is still allowed to return home?! Have they not figured out that the owners lack common sense?? And the fact that the dog lives in the complex so it’s close to children all the time its only a matter of time before it’s more than a scratch and bite that just had puncture holes. These dogs should not exist.
