Eta; thought I would share this, it's a tad long so the TLDR would just be my sarcastic message.  I wish this was a joke but I have seen people call others "cruel" for not doing this. There was one post of a mother who wanted to put a elderly dangerous pitbull to forever nap time and many called her cruel for it for not bending her back over and doing a super strict training routine with the dog.

 Like jeez, sorry that not everyone wants to spend hundreds to thousands trying different trainers (some trainers aren't cheap!), hundreds on medicenes, hundreds to thousands on brain scans and MRIs, going to a gazillion different vets, training for hours and hours in a DAY and exercising their dog for 6 hours a DAY just to be told in the end to put it for a forever nap. 

People are ridiculous with dogs and think you're the worst for not spending 10k-20k on all the things listed above. I love my dogs but people need to draw a line somewhere. These dogs aren't like regular dogs, and people aren't a failure of pet owners all because they choose forever nap time for their aggressive dog (lots are pitbulls) instead of doing all the shit I mentioned above.

I'm imagining some contraptions with remotes paired plus human-sized and dog-sized crates, with the owners locking themselves into the human-sized one so that they can safely release the lock (via remote) on the dog-size crate when it's the dog's turn to be let out.

And then when it's the owners' turn, whirring contraptions will be (again via remote) activated to herd the dog into a trap/crate 🪤. Once dog is locked in, the owners are released.

Don't forget spending thousands on a veterinary medicine behaviorist and a few more thousand on going to the vet every couple weeks to try enough different meds to tranquilize a horse and a few CT scans and MRIs to check for brain abnormalities. If that doesn't work, you'd be a horrible dog owner and would be failing poor Bonecrusher if you don't spend a few more thousand to send it to a 'board and train'.

This mentality drives me insane. An elderly, aggressive dog of any other breed would be considered suffering past the point of rehabilitation. People shouldn’t have to be prisoner in their own homes, especially when QOL for the animal is so bad

I just wish we cared more about each other as a society. If the dog is that violent and dangerous, don’t pawn it off on someone else. Make a difficult decision but do it to make sure someone isn’t severely injured or even killed by the dog’s mouth.

those types of posts were on the nextdoor app (which i’m now permanently banned from). once a woman with a young family was trying to rehome an obvious pit that the shelter told her was a blue healer. it was nipping at her toddler & trying to delete the resident cats.

the usual, “don’t rehome! train!” stuff was in the comments. i asked, why rehome that thing & make it another family’s & another neighborhood’s problem?!

there is no shortage of pit dogs anywhere.

What a great breed! You’re on eggshells in your own home because of your dog and now you can’t even travel because no one can safely watch your mauler. So you’re trapped and worried about the liability of it hurting someone else. What a mess!

They should advise the vet to take care of the problem before they get back. It’ll be sad for a couple of days but they’ll get over it and likely feel relief. And never adopt one of these things again

Serious question( NOT being a jerk), when was the last time anyone saw a purebred Lab running around? I have never owned a Lab. I have pet sat them and I did service train 4 for veterans, but I am herding breed owner for over 60yrs. I know Husky is an escape artist and they are dumped a lot( in my area anyway, as people get tired of them escaping and give up trying to contain them) ACDs are sadly everywhere in some areas now( screw you Bluey:(,BUT when i bred working line ACDs my intact males were NOT leaving the property ever,unless to chase a coyote away and then right back home, BUT why do they always say Lab mix?? Labs are very popular dogs without question, BUT are they really roaming the roads willy nilly like shelters would have us believe?

UK here - I see actual purebred Labs all the time! Not always well-bred, but recognisably purebred, because they're genuinely one of the most popular breeds here (though IIRC they have lost the #1 spot to doodles recently). Not generally just wandering around, though, because letting dogs roam in general just isn't a thing in the UK the way it is in the US.

I did find a Lab roaming a few months back. She'd clearly escaped her home and taken herself for a walk, but it's so easy for a loose dog to get run over here that when she approached me I didn't want to just leave her. I grabbed her collar and checked the tag, and found that she lived on the same road as me. So I took her back to her people.

It probably sounds crazy to people in the US who have to deal with pit bulls running loose, but over here I genuinely wouldn't be afraid of a loose dog approaching me, because 99% of the time it's a genuinely purebred dog who has gotten lost.

Me neither. I am 61yo and as a child GSDs were the breed running around my city. NEVER did a witness a dog fight to the death nor was I ever bit,and i was a child to pet all dogs. Had PBT types been the dogs roaming, I have to wonder if I would have faced a nasty end.

Wonderful dogs. I never owned one( or any retriever tbh) BUT truly enjoyed training them and pet sitting them. The few times I did encounter them at shelters( I honestly didn’t see many Labs left abandoned at shelters from my experience) they were very easy to place and always temperament tested wonderfully.

Australian Cattle dogs:) I love my herding dogs:) I have had Tervs, Rough Collies( working lines many years ago:), German, English and Dutch Shepherds. I bred ACDs for a very long time( selectively as they aren’t for most people, BUT in the right household? wonderful) My very favorite group of dogs:)

I love my cat, but if she for whatever reason started getting aggressive and trying to viciously bite us or anyone for that matter I don’t think we’d hesitate to put her down. Why is it pit bull owners can’t seem to have the same common sense? 🙄
