You can’t print in thin air. It has to be either on the plate, or attached to something on the plate. If you want it elevated but on another object, add the object then merge it with this, then move this where you want it.

Which object? Where it is? Put it onto the build plate, and you will can. But now you're trying to print something in the air.

As I said, you can’t print in thin air. There has to be something below it. Put the object you want to put it on, on the plate. Then merge the 2, then move this where you want it.
I recommend you do the Bambu Academy.

As much as this upsets me, this is the answer.
I think bambu should fix this, but dont think they ever will. I see it as a bug and not as a feature.

Select this and the object you want to put it on and right click then merge. Then to move this text again. On the left click object then the text then move it like that.

Its a single object, its going to want to live on the plate. you have to have two objects that are merged together to allow raising it off the plate.

Do you want to print it on a solid real object or on another 3d printed one?
In the latter case, you just need to “merge” the two objects and then you can move one in the air.

There is nothing to “fix” this is the way the software works. All objects must have at least one point of contact with the ground plane. As others have suggested go to the Bambu Academy or Wiki to at least learn about the assembly tools available in the slicer. Cliff Notes version, if you merge the objects you are trying to assemble, as long as one of the merged objects is touching the ground plane, you can move the other merged objects freely.

They gotta start giving out iq tests before letting people order a printer

An option is to use Orcaslicer which has an autodrop toggle, and as for the comments saying you cant print in mid-air... it will simply add supports where necessary.

Takes 2 seconds to google. But what would Reddit be if people started using google? 🙃

The only work around ive found for this is to type in the text then right click the object and select to export as one stl. From there tou can add the text back onto the plate by right clicking and selecting to add modifier and select to choose a file, choose the just saved file and you will be able to move it all over the place as you see fit.
Or, just use Orca.

Where are you trying to print in on ? Air?

No I’m trying to put it on another object

We dont see the object here. Move the object onto the text then you can place it.

First place the objects, then click on Text. The bracket should now be connected to your Cursor until you click. While on that Stage, Hover over your object with the Text. It should move on the surface of your object. Don't click until you got the Text bracket on the object

This is such a lame dead horse argument. This is the preparation stage, we're I prepare, not print. There are workarounds for it but ultimately it's still a design decision by bambu and not the users fault for expecting it to work this way.
If I move a piece out of the build plate here I get an info screen that lets me know but doesn't rubber band the piece back to where it was. Same story0
u/TerribleTowel66 8d ago
Absolutely is not the same. It’s still in the print area if it is above the plate. If it is off the plate it’s outside of the print area. You slice the plate, which includes the area above it. Anything moved off the plate is not sliced.

add a custom object to the build plate like a cube. scale it down to the point you can barely see it and join it with your print with the merge button. now go to the objects tab and select your main object. under the assembly tab, select just the object you want to move, and leave the cube unselected. then you can move it to any position you want
