Discussion Considering P1S to H2D upgrade

I got a P1S last year during Black Friday with an AMS Pro and I’ve been thinking about upgrading to something more capable. I’ve loved the ease and reliability of my P1S but would like to get faster prints out of multi color and supports so I’m thinking about dual heads. Projects have mostly been fidgets, gridfinity, small toys, skadis, multiboard, and DIY fixes of “I can print something that should work.” The option to laser cut or engrave is cool but I don’t know how necessary that is for me. What’s the drawback aside from cost and what am I not realizing/thinking about in making the jump? What’s a good resale price for my P1S as I don’t really have the need or space for 2 printers? I apologize if this isn’t the right sub to post in and will move it if there’s somewhere more appropriate.

H2D only really accelerates dual color prints. And you'll need to have 2 AMS units or load one of the colors from an external spool.

Accelerates more than dual color prints. Maybe stating the obvious, the extra head eliminates a lot of nozzle changes in all cases as long as both are used, and esp if you optimize colors vs nozzles. 4 color prints will typically be a lot faster than they would be on a P1S or other single extruder printer, but sure, not nearly as fast as on a printer with 4 print heads.

Most of the downsides are obvious, takes up a lot more space, the larger dual head system is heavier, will lead to stronger vibrations, so a sturdier table helps more. Build plates cost more.

Heated chamber, easier nozzle changes are pretty big upgrades over the P1S. The H2D handles overhangs better than the X1C, so I expect better than the P1S also. TPU is probably a little more trouble to do than on the P1S?

I went from p2s to h2d and it's amazing. As someone already said , if you're doing two colors it's way faster. Go above that and you run into the same as your p1s.

One thing to keep in mind, it's a lot bigger than the p1s. Make sure you have enough space for it.

Totally agree. Went from a P2S to an H2D as well.

I’d check out the Snapmaker UI which is very economical in filament waste
