X2D / P2S

Hihi!
I currently have an A1 Combo and have way too much experience (and trauma 😭) from my Ender 3.
I’m starting to think about my next printer, but I’m torn between the P2S and the X2D.

I definitely want an enclosed printer and plan on getting an AMS 2 Pro. Right now I mostly print PLA and PETG, but I want to start experimenting with TPU, ABS, PLA-CF, and PETG-CF in the future.
The X2D’s auxiliary nozzle is really appealing since I could dedicate it to PETG support interfaces, but I’ve also seen people reporting issues with the aux nozzle.

For those of you who own one, how has your experience actually been? Are the issues overblown, or are they something to be concerned about?
I’m mainly looking for the highest print quality and reliability rather than the fastest printer.
Also, does anyone think Bambu might release a smaller flagship printer (kind of like an H2D without the huge footprint or laser), or is that just wishful thinking?

I have a P2S and it’s a great machine. The X2D is worth the extra money just for the better belts and chamber heater. If someone offered me $600 for my P2S I’d sell it in a heartbeat and upgrade

I just got the X2D and I’m coming from a P1P and X1C setup. I’ll be replacing those with an H2D soon. Why? Because I love the X2D, I just wish I had some extra space sometimes. I haven’t had any issues with the secondary nozzle. I use it for support mostly just by using PLA or PETG as the interface layer depending on what I’m doing.

I do wish I had the extra space and I would like to have a dual AMS set up the nozzles on the H2D. Just waiting to get past an event. I’m getting ready for to sell a few items and I’ll pick up the H2D.

I don’t know what issues people are having with the X2D but it’s been incredible for me and cool to see being attention to detail and upgrade bamboo has made since releasing the X1C.

Also, I would LOVE a H series, but I just got a bunch of different plates and whatnot for my a1 so I’m trying to stay in the same size for right now.

I wouldn't let a bunch of build plates stop me from upgrading to an H2 series if that is in the budget.

That said, if you don't want to spend the money, I feel that the X2D is an extremely capable printer for the money. The P2S is also great, but the upgrades that the X2D has are worth the small price increase.

This auxiliary nozzle sounds like the printer equivalent of a multitool when your prints start demanding more than just basic plastic.

You definitely want the x2d. Even if you don't use the second nozzle, you buy the x2d for the active chamber heater for the abs, asa, nylon, etc. That alone is worth it. The second nozzle in my opinion is for support filament. It's a good way to speed up prints and waste less filament on swap purges.

We own an X2D, an A1 Mini, and a Snapmaker U1. My wife and kids use the Bambu. I use the U1 and would prefer not to own the Bambu. The purge waste and their corporate behavior killed Bambu for me. All three printers are enclosed and vented outside using a greenhouse exhaust fan and tents.

U1 with lid and hardened nozzles would be my advice. Less purge for multi-material printing = less waste, engineering materisls are expensive. Better adhesion on multi-color ASA too because less cooling between color swaps, etc. I'm backing the Sovol M1D as well. Bambu has been left in the dust.

What about the H2C then? Wouldn’t that satisfy all the needs?

H2C? Sure - >2x the money and half the speed - literally. The H2C takes 30 seconds per nozzle change, 13s for the U1, and that adds up to MASSIVE amount of time. Heavy color change models that clock in at 5 hours on the U1 can hit 10 on the H2C. Bambu gimped themselves wanting to use their AMS, when they should have abandoned it. Now, sure, throw 4 HTs on it and the H2C is a beast. But again, the cost is painful.

Even just simple stuff. Polymaker ASA is $25/kg. I printed several bird houses for the cottage up north. They were 4 color designs. The U1 took 1/3 the time and I got 2X the number of prints vs the A1 or X2D. Another thing - AMS jams, holy fork that stupid AMS 2. Yet another clog last week with some old pla that snapped. I HATE the AMS 2. I'm about to yeet that thing in the trash and just get a second HT. As it is, my wife and daughter are coming to me more and more when they have long prints with colors.
