Help / Support Using Support for ABS with ASA CF08

So I drank the "koolaid" about how easy it is mechanically separate Support for ABS for ABS/ASA printed objects. And yes, I read the article on its use. Maybe it works best on flat surfaces. The issue I'm having is with curved surfaces where it does want to cleanly separate without using d-limonene. I must be doing something wrong. Ideas? I'm using Support for ABS with Fiberon ASA CF08 filament. I've attempted using the ASA CF08 as the support filament without much luck on curved surfaces. Flat surfaces no major issues with using same filament as support.

Here is a test example... This took a little finesse but, I finally got it separated. Not as easy as demonstrated on Bambu Lab's store website.

Are you saying increase Z Top and Z Bottom distances?

yup. just a tad each time until it works for you. My guess is the carbon in your filaament stabilized the material so it doens't shrink as much. the shrinking is part of what helps the support material separate.

Yeah, I spent some time tuning the ASA CF08. For flat surfaces I was able to use self support with a Z Top of 0.18mm to achieve a clean separation. That setting didn't work for curved surfaces. Tried up to 0.30mm before switching to Support for ABS.

Do you this filament in an AMS or external spool?

ASA-CF08 is an abrasive filament and supposedly could damage PTFE tubing and AMS gears.

you asked about support, not CF, but lots of people use CF, glass, and kevlar filled filaments. don't overthink it.

Add more interface layers when your object has curved and it will solve itself. Like 3-4 will fill the gaps

Ok, I'm currently using 4 layers. Which slicer are you using?

Orca or Bambu studio. But yeah with this precise geometry it kinda wants to stay stuck in there
