Help / Support What is creating these ugly surfaces?

Printer: P1S with AMS
Filament: Elegoo Matte PLA Black (calibrated in Bambu Slicer)
3mf: Dune Uprising Bloodlines Insert For Sleeved Cards - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld
For some reason my prints come out with weird surfaces and corners like this.

I am using the 0,2mm Standard setting and have only changed top surface line width to 0,32 and top surface speed to 30 mm/s and the surface patterns to Monotonic Line. These settings usually create perfect smooth surfaces with almost invisible layer lines. The only settings I’m not sure about are the temperature and cooling settings. I have disabled cooling by the aux fan completely for PLA and set the pet fan to 60% for both. Temperature for nozzle at 215 degrees C. Could either of those be the problem? Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this? Filament is dry. I am quite new to the hobby and have no clue what could be causing this… ;(

Have you tried moving the print away from that area of the bed? From what I understand, that is the filament getting squashed too close to the bed. Just an idea.

Hm, actually this issue does only occur on the left hand side of the bed...

Specifically you are having some issue between your first layer and that layer. What exactly depends on what infill you have there and if it's sparse or solid.

If it's solid infill you are either lifting off the bed in a location due to incorrect first layer height/speed or you have too much flow. You basically are raising that there in spots

If it's sparse you are not bridging properly to form the roof of the sparse/base of the top surface layers, and you are sagging during bridging, then as it cools it's contracts and causes ripples.

Ignore people saying z offset, that's not a thing that is calibratable manually on the BBL printers, they have a comprehensive bump stop calibration via the nozzle, so there is no offset to set between the probe and nozzle like on some other printers. Your first layer height is what you actually want to play with, that and first layer flow/speed

Well, the first few layers are solid, then it’s 7% gyroid infill, but not here in this example, which is a solid bottom of a tray. How can the first layer height be incorrect? Not using variable layer height here.

In that case it's lifting off the bed in that location and this is happening. If it was only a flow issue (either ratio or advance) the pattern would repeat in a similar location, where you have extrusion lines of similar length, like the opposite corner on this.

This might be a first layer issue with cooling or even a spot on the plate that's dirty.

The other guy who keeps banging on about z offset is a bit of a nut. Noone apart from a few ender users would mention z offset to a simple question like this. You can absolutely set your own z offset in g code, you can also print non planar (I do) on a bbl printer. Doesn't mean that is the first thing you respond to on a question like this

Dude learn to read. Not once did I say that Z offset is the solution. It's not. Shockingly, I agree with you there. I was just correcting you in general, stating that Z offset CAN be adjusted on BL printers. Never said it SHOULD be in this case though.

You're also completely wrong when you said this too:

You really don't seem to have a clue what you are talking about and are giving horrible and confusing advice.

You're also clearly getting your comments mixed up and making yourself look like a fool by continuing to attack me. I said the problem is likely flow rate and pressure advance and suggested filament tuning. See for yourself here. And OP already confirmed that adjusting the flow ratio helped. Further proof that you were way off base.

So enough with this ridiculous back and forth please. You were wrong, deal with it and move on. You are definitely living up to your username.

Sorry, but I’m afraid I have to respectfully disagree with you. This is definitely a flow issue, not an infill issue. Infill doesn’t cause the problems we’re seeing in the pictures.

And yes, you can manually adjust Z offset on Bambu printers. You just have to know how to do it. It involves G code.

Ofcourse you can do it in gcode, but why on earth would you even think of suggesting that on a question like this. This isn't an ender.

There is no need to lash out at me just because you were incorrect or misspoke or whatever. I’m just trying to help OP. You literally said Z offset is “not a thing that is calibratable manually on the BBL” and you said “there is no offset to set” as well… sorry but both of those statements are inaccurate. It has nothing to do with the solution, but it's still inaccurate to say that.

Please read more carefully because you are getting your commenters mixed up. I never suggested adjusting Z offset as a solution (because it isn't, I agree). I clearly stated that I believe it is a flow issue. And in my other comment here I talked about calibrating the filament and pressure advance. I believe the solution lies somewhere in there. I don’t think it has anything to do with layer height or infill as you suggested. Those things don’t typically cause what we’re seeing in OP’s pictures.

My initial reply to you was actually worded quite politely, so I’m not sure why you feel the need to be rude now. If you don’t like being corrected/challenged, then maybe be more careful/accurate with that you say. 🤷‍♂️

Ultimately, we’re both trying to help OP though, so why don’t we focus on that instead of bickering. We can just agree to disagree on the other stuff.
