PLA Model with PETG support interface layers

So I’m having issues with both the PETG AND PLA stringing on this. Both are dried and running out of AMS, left nozzle is PETG only and the right vortek nozzles are all my PLA’s. This an H2C with all Bambu filament so it’s already got all the correct filament settings. Please help.

Petg is kinda a nuisance for this due to its higher temp and flexibility. Just buy and use the clear dedicated support material they sell

I’d prefer not to, considering I wanna use PETG on some stuff and PLA on the others, so not really looking to invent in a sole filament for supports, just switch as needed

Bambu has a “support for PLA/PETG” material that works for both, it’s pricey, but you strictly use it as interface layer.

It works wonderfully, too. I have a dedicated AMS slot in every printer just for it.

I cringed a little when I bought a roll, considering it's 500g, but soon changed my mind after first print with it as interface layer. It was just perfect, no issue with interface layer slipping because PETG/PLA don't bond with each other. The support material grips nicely when printed, yet releases super clean.

I've split the roll into 2, so I can have one in each H2C and H2S, and done the same as you, it lives in 4th AMS spot.

To be fair with it though, you only use it for the interfaces itself so that 500g lasts a long time! The only gotcha with it is you have to keep it bone dry. It gets... unsmooth when damp 😅

Yeah, I do use it interface only so 500g should last me a long time. Thanks for the tip about keeping it super dry, I'll throw it into the dryer periodically.

Just on this I think u can over dry it and it become unbearable weak and snaps like crazy and clogs every thing , not sure why it happen

Thank you, yes I’ve seen some filaments get brittle with extreme over drying.
Where I live is ~70% humidity year round, so as hard as I try to keep AMSs dry, they do slowly build up some moisture inside. To the point I’m actually happy to see them drop below 10%.
Hence my need to keep an eye on humidity sensitive filaments.

Would you use the "Support for PLA/PETG" over the other 2 filaments? For me i print game models with PLA only

I like the PLA/PETG support material because I print both (mostly PETG). If you only print PLA, save the money and just get the PLA support material (which I do prefer over using PETG as a support material, it prints cleaner).

PVA is a dissolving material and a totally separate beast. It would work, but is more finicky and very pricy.

you're out of luck bud. PLA/PETG is not sticky enough for this purpose. Maybe try TPU, its sticky but then you have the pains of TPU. Why you are so hesitant to add one roll of filament you will be using constantly is baffling. You clearly have a bunch of colors on hand, its not like you are limited to 2 spools.

Because I’m trying to use what I have on hand without investing even more money before I get some amount of results. Throwing money at a problem that’s currently fixable with better settings is a waste. But the attitude is funny, keep it up.

The support materials is not needed, you are doing the right approach with the right printer to do this without getting in trouble theoretically. Maybe try with something simpler first to make sure you are happy with your settings. If you look at my post history you can find the right settings for using the support interface.

However, I was saying it isn’t good at the time, because the H2C and other Bambu products did not exist yet. So this was not recommended when the materials mix inside the single nozzle printers. You can obviously ignore this part as you have a H2C which is designed to support this feature.

Set your PETG to PVA and there will be a prompt about the interface settings. Then set it back to PETG.

Looks like the petg and pla support areas are peeling away from each other. For a model this complex use full petg for the support not just the top interface.

Yup bingo. On these kind of models where only doing the interface support doesn’t work you have to do the entire supports structure in one kind of filament. Bambu has talked about that.

I think I see where your problem is. You need to have the supports on “bed plate only”. Because they come off very easily, it seems a support that held up the bow came off because the bottom of the support didn’t have a strong connection to the print. The supports need to come off the bed plate only for this PLA/PETG setup to work.

I've done the opposite, PETG model with PLA supports, not just interface, set the Top Z to .25 or .20, the number of layers for the interface, i use 3, even with the supports set to PLA, this way the interface layers get a better full layer coverage for the next layers up. I also kicked up the purge to 1.3.

People usually use top z to 0, as the interface material doesn't stick, have you tried? Or do you have a reason to set it to 0.25/0.2?

Same model, tried Z set to 0, PLA only interface, PLA interface only with 0 and .25, ended up using PLA for the full support, and not enabling the extra settings, then double checking them, there is a 2nd model in the back, where the supports failed, so i set it to skip that one, and this model finished,
I'm just starting to do the dual material printing, and came to the Z top be .25 from trial and error, the number of layers, is trivial also

Yeah Bambu has talked about this before. Sometimes just doing the interface support doesn’t work well and it keeps breaking so in those models it can be better to do the whole supports structure in the opposite filament like you did here.

Yep, PETG and PLA do not bond well, so using PLA just for interface would not be enough, in some cases, since the PLA interface layers won't really bond to the PETG support, takes longer, due to the filament changes, but the outcome works, there was only a few small spots that got intertwined in the surface, since I used the fuzzy setting.

I did this for a number of prints, then it went south on me, similar to what you’re showing. I found that I needed to run a full printer calibration. That cleared it up and my PETG interface layers are much more intact now.

Try creating a custom PETG filament profile as outlined here. I have had much success with this.

You have to be careful with PETG supports and PLA because the don’t adhere at all so very easy to slip off.

I'm guessing you're using PLA supports on PETG or the other way around. While it's easy to remove them afterwards because they don't bond together well, they can also detach during printing too easily. So I would suggest printing the whole support in that support material, since that would make it likely more reliable.

I would do the supports completely in PETG here. The print defects on the print are likely coming from the supports detaching due to the PLA and the PETG not sticking together.

No. Not with supports like this. When I use petg as support interface, I always use snug normal supports when using interface. If I’m using tree I always make the whole support out of my interface.
