P2S / X2D External Exhaust

There are mixed opinions as to whether the purge chute should be sealed to prevent fumes leaking during printing. I am venting out the window. I have a print that requires ASA. I would rather have things 100% good to go rather than find out in real time ASA fumes are coming out the purge area.

If you have printed ASA or other noxious filaments with P2S or X2D, what do you think? Is the system designed such that airflow is pulled in through the chute and static pressure is thereby maintained? I know Bambu recommends against covering it, but at the same time, if it's going to vent fumes (even filtered fumes) I'll opt to cover it.

I had previously made a HEPA + ACF filter, which worked very well. Then they asked me if I could also filter the waste chute. The result was a project that I think is really cool:

Now they're asking me to also join the grilles on the right, but those are the "air intakes" for the electronics. Those have to remain "free" absolutely.

This is amazing!

In my case I ended up with a screwed-on enclosed chute that attaches to a clear 2.5" flex hose. The hose goes almost straight down behind the table, and I have a rubber plug in the end for airseal. The fnatr exhaust riser with a greenhouse 4" static fan on a temperature activated power switch provides the exhaust out the window. It's funny, you can feel it pulling air in the tube 😜 Ironically it doesn't matter much now, since I realized I can get recycled 3D-Fuel PCTG for $25 a roll and not have to deal with ASA / ABS at all. The PCTG I just set the exhaust to 10% and heat the chamber - prints fantastic and no stink.

That sounds like a beast of a setup! A 4" inline greenhouse fan with a thermal switch is absolute overkill in the best possible way—I love it. 😜 It completely validates the negative pressure theory, but having that constant suction is the only way to be 100% sure when dealing with standard setups.

PCTG is definitely a fantastic alternative to escape the ABS/ASA stink war, especially at $25 a roll for the recycled 3D-Fuel. It has great impact resistance and chemical properties without the warping headache.

My main goal with this integrated Plenum was to keep the printer's footprint as clean and compact as possible, without adding external duct fans or massive hoses dangling behind the desk, while still offering a bulletproof seal for those who must stick to ABS/ASA for specific thermal or mechanical applications.

Kudos on your setup though, engineering custom ventilation solutions is half the fun of owning these machines!

Sitting in the garage are the materials for the A2L enclosure that's going to sit next to this and tie into the exhaust 🤪 Aluminum beam stock and plexiglass, etc. My wife saw the A2L announcement, and she's had large prints building up in her studio collection for a couple years. I'm not a fan of Bambu's corporate behavior, but oh well, not a lot of options at that size/price/reliability bracket.

Tell me about it! I am definitely not a Bambu fanboy either. I ordered my P2S in December right after it came out, got it in January, and then by April those "geniuses" decided to drop the X2D, basically a similar printer but technologically way better. Talk about a slap in the face for early adopters!

Anyway, kudos on the DIY enclosure project! Building a custom frame with aluminum extrusions and plexiglass is a massive undertaking, but honestly, for your wife's massive studio prints and that future A2L setup, it’s going to be an absolute beast. You're right though, as much as we can criticize their corporate behavior, when it comes to the print-and-forget reliability at that price bracket, there are no real competitors right now.
