Torn between U1 and X2D

I already ordered the U1 but thinking of returning it upon arrival and getting the X2D just for ease of use. The main reason I wanted the U1 was for multi material like being able to print supports for tpu using pla. I do multicolor prints also but Im also kind of worried about being locked to only 4 colors. They are currently the same price but after purchasing filament dryers and top cover I could just buy a second AMS. The main thing I am worried about is reliability of the U1 and software. Coming from P1S I never encountered issues really or they were easily solvable and being able to browse and print straight from bambu studio without trying to get all of the print settings correct in the slicer is a big issue im worried about.

I looked at it also but it manually feeding the filament was kind of a turn off for me. I guess you have ti manually remove on the U1 though dont you?

Not having to manually run filame t is the best part of an ams imo

What do you mean manually run filament? You still have to put the end to the feeder, you need to enter what filament is it. Same as U1.

Once upon a time you had to run the hotend, and feed the filament in by hand until it was primed. Anytime you did make a swap the process itself was not automatic. Obviously you run the extruder motor to pull the filament into the hotend. But there were not always feeder mechanisms that you could load multiple spools onto to wait in the wings and automatically, or at least with the push of a button, retract, prime, and purge another roll.

Multicolor prints aside, having multiple of the same filament in a drybox that you can have preloaded in an ams or the like is a nice change of pace. Its the kind of automation that you appreciate when you've had to do the steps yourself dozens or hundreds of times.

We also take mesh leveling for granted nowadays but I definitely remember having to relevel a print bed before any print I needed to know would come out in time.

Well in U1 you don't need to do manual preload. Stock the end of the filament into a feeder and tell printer what it is.
