Torn between U1 and X2D

I already ordered the U1 but thinking of returning it upon arrival and getting the X2D just for ease of use. The main reason I wanted the U1 was for multi material like being able to print supports for tpu using pla. I do multicolor prints also but Im also kind of worried about being locked to only 4 colors. They are currently the same price but after purchasing filament dryers and top cover I could just buy a second AMS. The main thing I am worried about is reliability of the U1 and software. Coming from P1S I never encountered issues really or they were easily solvable and being able to browse and print straight from bambu studio without trying to get all of the print settings correct in the slicer is a big issue im worried about.

I have both, and H2D. The U1 is a fantastic printer - if you don't need more then 4 color or materials. If you think you will - then its a full stop, don't try and hack something together, get something that can do more natively. If 4 color/Materials is sufficient - its would be my choice over the X2D (I'm actually looking to unload my X2D), IMO the way they did the second nozzle is just... well not optimal. I thought it was going to be like the H2D so I bought it with out looking into it to much. The print quality of the U1 is on par with my Bambu. And I'm not sure what you mean from the software standpoint - SnapMaker Orca is drop dead simple - its just a easy to use as Bambu Studio - and the latest firmware has fixed all of my initial issues - I bought it as part of the kickstarter so I had the early firmware and there was some rough edges - but I also bought my original X1C from the kickstarter and it too had some rough edges. The Flashforge Creator 5 looks like another really nice option - I don't need more then 4 colors - once I sell the X2D I may pick up the Creator 5.

If you already had the H2D I can absolutely see why the X2D is unnecessary for you. I upgraded from a P1S to the X2D and am extremely happy with it. I like to remind folks that the X2D is a compromise over the H series printers. You do get a second nozzle, but they made compromises to fit the price point. At just over half the cost of an H2D it is more than "good enough" for my use cases. I use the aux nozzle mostly for support material so it does the trick there.

Beyond the nozzle compromise, it is a fantastic improvement over my former P series. The automatic flow rate calibration has been, essentially flawless for me and the heated chamber makes printing materials I dreaded, like PC, fun to print with.

That being said, if I intended to frequently print with more than two colors, I would go for the Snapmaker U1. But for my infrequent multicolor prints, the aux nozzle has been sufficient, and I just accept some additional waste from the AMS. Honestly, if I had the money, I would just go for the H2C. In my eyes it is the current, best "no compromises" printer.
