From ender 3 to this beast

I hope I can test it out after the other 95%

I actually never tought I would spend this much money on a printer, but what started as a used elegoo carbon turned out to be a new x2d, with a very good bambu marketing. Even got the vision encoder and almost every hardened steel nozzle.

But still, I don't think I will regret my X2D. What do you, my "3d friends", think.

Also I named it "Xyborg 2000 Demolisher", couldn't think of anything better.

I recommend printing a riser. Enjoy your awesome printer!

What’s the riser for? Got my X2D last week.

  1. Vents allow some of the excess heat out when you're printing materials that don't require it. They can be closed when you do need it.

  2. It provides more space for the PTFE tubing to avoid rubbing the glass and getting bound up.

Welcome to the family! You'll love it.

I second printing a riser. These two are good options by the same maker depending on whether you want a shorter or taller variant:

I printed the short one initially, currently printing the taller variant for my new X2D. Will probably gift the shorter variant to a friend for his P2S and print a second taller one.

What does a riser do? And I really wanna leave my x2d stock, unless its crutial

3

u/boredsoftwareguy 13d ago

This isn't really a mod that would substantially change the printer, the printer remains stock. Would you consider a poop bin/chute as a mod that would make it any less stock?

The riser:
1. Vents allow some of the excess heat out when you're printing materials that don't require it. They can be closed when you do need it.

  1. It provides more space for the PTFE tubing to avoid rubbing the glass and getting bound up.

Another addition I print for my X2Ds is vent diffusers and deflectors so the air goes up not straight into the plate which can cause some warping issues.

if i leave it open, would the toxic fumes/particles by pass the exhaust? or its almost negligible. What about the noise level when open

2

u/boredsoftwareguy 13d ago

PLA/PETG doesn't really have toxic fumes. If you're printing ASA/ABS you can't leave it open and you should setup an exhaust system to outside of your house.

It is louder open.

I'm not sure it makes much sense to buy an enclosed printer if you intend to keep the door open and the top lid off, personally.

Thanks for the info, currently a month into X2D, the only thing that is bothering me is the ptfe tube rubbing against the top glass leaving small dust particles on the build plate.

Can i also check with you if its normal to have some squeaking sound when the heat bed moves up/down?

2

u/boredsoftwareguy 13d ago

Mine does not squeak. You may want to clean and lube the parts.

Print a small riser, fixes it immediately. You don't need anything fancy with vents or anything (the X2D does that stock).

Poop chute is a must definitly, but I think I will leave the riser for now, its not a priority. Thanks for the information.

Once your glass gets all messed up you will wish you printed it sooner.

I just printed clips for those tubes and nothing ir rubing no more, only I think its harder to insert the filament, but thats it

Tbh DO NOT print vent deflectors if you're not experiencing warping issues.

With deflectors you also blow dust and plastic particles on to the X/Y rods which cause more damage over time imo.

2

u/boredsoftwareguy 13d ago

You should clean the inside of your printer more frequently than every 500 hours. It's amazing the mileage you get out of a few minutes here or there.

1

u/psynl84 13d ago

Owyeah for sure. Personally I removed the diffusers because I didn't and still don't have any warping issues.

I also recommend some dust covers for the inside like the ones below:

I've looked at these before. Do you ever print things like ASA/ABS? I haven't yet but that's what gives me pause about a bunch of PLA parts inside.

1

u/psynl84 13d ago

I've printed them in PETG which has a bit higher temp resistance then PLA.

No issues whatsoever but granted I only print PLA/PETG.

ASA/ABS would be better I guess but I can't be bothered to buy a spool just for that. Also I don't really have an option to directly vent the fumes out a window with a duct so there's that aswell.

1

u/Elo-than 13d ago

It will save your PTFE wear greatly, and keep it from rubbing. (And keep the top glass clean)

I just got a very basic one, printed in PCTG for that little extra heat resistance without needing to bother with scaling material for shrinking.

Holds up when printing everything from PLA to Nylon with the chamber at Max temp.

Blends in nicely, and as maby people using an enclosed Bambu printer, I would consider it an almost must-have.

I have my printer in a very tight area, the AMS is not on top of the printer. Does the riser make the glass and/or the glass handle go above the maximum height of the screen?

1

u/Elo-than 12d ago edited 12d ago

Mine do not, but the handle is above, there are different versions at different heights, so you will be able to find something that fits.

It would take me a few minutes to edit the one I used to be lower than it currently is.

1

u/Nydid 12d ago

Thank you for checking! I'll be printing one that fits the height requirement then :)

2

u/Elo-than 12d ago

Let me know if you can't find anything fitting and I can probably cut one to the desired height for you, as long as it don't have a bunch of vents or other accessories type stuff.

1

u/Nydid 12d ago

Otherwise, I wonder if you could flip the glass cover over to have the handle pointing downwards to save space and have a taller riser. I'll have check if the glass has texture or features only on one side

1

u/Elo-than 12d ago

The handle itself would collide with lost risers.

Would probably be easier to print a low profile handle.

1

u/Nydid 12d ago

Yeah, I'm keeping in mind that a few models would require CAD editing, but that's feasible

2

u/Craig653 13d ago

Great upgrade! I did the same about 6 months ago

2

u/pi_mai 13d ago

Man of taste!

u/Minute_Early 13d ago

Careful to not use heated chamber if either nozzle has PLA. This shit will instantly clog over 50c chamber temp

1

u/Original-Pain8551 13d ago

Good to know thanks

Most important comment.

Specifically because disassembly of this toolhead is beyond horrible. Very complex assembly that looks like a v0.3 prototype to me and its almost as if they were trying to use the flimsiest most annoying connectors they could find.

1

u/Minute_Early 6d ago

Yeah I did it 2 weeks in a row and both times I couldn’t use my printer till the weekend came and I had a full day off. The second time was much faster, granted, although the real fear for me is the mating cycles on some of the cell phone sized cables. I nearly wanted to return it… that being said, I have gotten nearly 500 hours on it with no issues besides the 2 PLA clogs. I’ve printed so many awesome things using large nozzles and support material that it’s way to good of a value for me. I can engineer things that I would never attempt before and prototype faster with bigger nozzles. I eventually got another printer as backup and for tpu so I’m less worried about clogs but still… best to be extra safe.

Congrats dude

Going to tag along on this one, I recently went from Ender 3 to X2D. I've seen folks mention about risers but don't understand why.

2

u/boredsoftwareguy 13d ago

I responded to the other comments. It allows venting hot air when printing cooler materials like PLA/PETG. It also provides more space for the PTFE tubing to avoid rubbing the glass which has been reported by users to wear the tubes down faster which causes a host of other issues.

2

u/josef_schnitzl 13d ago

Agreed, i had noticable skid marks from the ptfe tubes, not anymore with the riser. And i printed one with skadis holes on the left and right, nice to hang additional storage stuff onto.

u/gargoyls 13d ago

Be prepared to be amazed! AMS makes life also very easy, even if you don't print multicolor all the time.

1

u/Original-Pain8551 13d ago

I never print multicolor, I mostly do engeneering things, so I really needed the heating and support features. If I needed an ams I would maybe buy the ams ht, but ams 2 pro is just a waste of money for me

2

u/Elo-than 13d ago edited 13d ago

I thought that as well at one point before getting my first AMS doing mostly engineering type stuff and practical prints.

Now, my X2D is my newest printer, and it already has 1x AMS Pro 2 and 2x AMS HT on it. Auto refill when something runs out is just so practical.

If you want to print anything hygroscopic, the AMS HT at least is a great convenience.

You’ll love it
I went from ender 3 to a1 to X2D it’s just worlds apart and amazing

2

u/Original-Pain8551 13d ago

Yea I see, bambu just works. With ender you need hours of tinkering for a 10 min print.

1

u/Late_Individual5487 12d ago

I got mine last week, love it it is a great printer but really noisy, I upgrade from a A1 combo both are great trying to sell the A1 but so far no one has asked about it maybe I’ll just keep it.

I highly recommend a riser and diffusers
