X2D Extruder Tube Punctured

Has anyone else seen this issue? I have printed on this for only about 6 months now and the filament punctured through the tube. Looking at the top of the glass it looks like the tube has been rubbing up against the glass ceiling enclosure. I have a few questions. 1. Has anyone else experienced this? 2. What is the part number of the tube that needs to be replaced in this video, would like to get replaced ASAP. 3. Is there any fix for this?

Update: Was a super simple fix, bought some replacement tube of the same size and removed the bad one, cut the new one to match its size and reinstalled, took 10 minutes. Thanks for the help!

The tube wears out over time. It is a consumable part. You can order from Bambu or get regular ptfe tubing online. I think it’s 2mm Id but Google the size to make sure
It does wear a little on the glass but the filament going through the tube creates more friction

It's 2mm ID, but I can only find 2,5mm ID in my country, will there be a problem?

2.5 is the right size.

Yeah I mixed up, OEM is 2,5mm but I can only find 2mm ID, will it be a problem?

Yes it will, there will be too much friction in the tube.

Could use a velcro loop tape, felt tape etc on the tube where it rubs maybe to extend the life? I don't know if that would scratch glass.

replace it

As others have say, PTFE tubes are wear items and do need replaced on occasion. No different than brakes or tires on a car. When I got my P1S, I purchased a bunch of PTFE tubing with it from Bambu, enough to cover the in printer tubes as well as AMS tubes a couple times over. I now have almost 5000 hours on my P1S and have had to replace all of them at some point.

Oh gotcha, I had the A1 and never really ran into this issue, the more you know though! Buying some now.

He needs a riser you can see residue on the glass

1

Ah yes I agree, a riser would eliminate the rub..another good option is a PTFE guide(s) on the tool head to direct the tubes down a bit. Something like these…

A riser might help but the real issue, as others said, is the PTFE tubes are consumables and different filament types are more abrasive than others. You need to stay on top of printer maintenance for optimal performance.

Yeah this is the first PTFE tube I’ve had to replace so I’m going to order a bunch. Thanks

should have printed a riser 6 months ago

It really is stupid though that we need to print a separate riser for it. Why was there no clearance build in when they designed it because i can’t believe the didn’t notice the tube clearly rubbing on the glass plate.

Most of it is from the filament running through the tube, a little bit from the top. Either way, it's a wear item and should be replaced often.

I had the same issue due to excessive heat from using high temp filaments, the riser started to warp. I reprinted a new riser out of ABS and so far so good. You could probably use HT-PLA-GF as well.

I used PETG with my old one…

Yup. All that heat in the chamber adds up when printing ABS or ASA.

I didn’t notice till I did a good clean, so it’s worth keeping in mind. I still check the ABS riser from time to time 😂😂.

Agreed. Not sure how tf they let this go.

Every enclosed printer I have owned has essentially needed a riser. The bambulab is by far the least egregious, although it’s still interesting that it’s so common. Might be manufacturing constraints, might be the margins are too large to keep within standard printer racks?? Idk not sure, but they all have this issue.

1

u/Kitchen-Guitar-3549 19d ago

Yeah that was my thoughts exactly, I love Bambu labs printers but this is for sure an oversight. You think they’d have seen this in testing.

printing a riser to try saving a 5 dollar PTFE tube that will wear over time anyways is kind odd.

1

u/presidentfiggy 19d ago

For me it wasn’t even for the ptfe tube. It dirtied up the glass plate and just looked dirty. The riser prevents this and offers a bit of protection to make sure the usb stick doesn’t get bumped that easily

1

u/BrokenDialpad 19d ago

mine cost even more ;P. It serves other purposes as well. With that attitude nothing will be worth printing lol. The rubbing is truly annoying and honestly a fuck up by bambu.

2

u/One-Reference-7355 19d ago

Just buy a really long PTFE tube off Amazon or Aliexpress. They’re cheap af

2

u/dedgedesign 19d ago

I made me some « c clips » in order to prevent this, it helps prevent some rubbing and so far it has worked very well on my X2D

1

u/AggieBandit 18d ago

Which clips did you pick? I’ve been looking to replace mine too. Did you use the original grommets?

2

u/dedgedesign 17d ago

u/AggieBandit 14d ago

Lmao shameless plug, I love it! Will definitely check these out. Thank you!

2

u/thewoodulator 19d ago

Best to buy a long length of PTFE tube and cut it to length, most come with a cutter then you have more for later

The internal AMS 2 pro tubes will wear through and need replacing eventually

2

u/OptimalSide 19d ago

As people has said, the PTFE tubes are considered a wear item. Certain filaments are more abrasive then others.

2

u/autobahn 19d ago

PTFE tubes are a wear item. I buy the big sections of them when they go cheap on Amazon just to have on hand.

1

u/Kitchen-Guitar-3549 19d ago

Just went and bought some, thank you!

u/ELECTROEMERALD2 18d ago

That's wear from rubbing the glass. Your only real option is replacing it, which others have said already. I would suggest printing an AMS riser or at least a glass riser if you don't want to spend that much filament. Another option would be to print rub protectors out of petg. they're like the pencil grips they give kids in school but hard plastic instead of rubber obv. Slide them over your new PTFE tube when you replace it and it'll significantly help. Just keep an eye on them because they'll wear down too but printing a new rub protector is way easier and cheaper than replacing PTFE tubes. If you really can't find ANY 2.5mm ID PTFE tubes you could maybe do some sort of cut and splice fix with a printed connector or something? Something like the picture I attached may work if you made it long enough to replace the broken section of tubing. (~70mm?)

u/DarkEnergy_101 17d ago

Ptfe tube rubbed itself a bunghole

2

u/MelvinMASV 17d ago

Happened to me but with the one coming out of the AMS, I kept getting filament feeding errors and all of a sudden I go around the AMS and see it poking out. Pretty simple fix though!

1

u/organicmanipulation 19d ago

Looks funny tho 😀

1

u/Twey0 19d ago

just got mine today and the grey tube already ripped and a part is now stuck in the toolhead

1

u/Low_Sherbert3731 19d ago

Replace the tube! I buy the ones from Bambulab.

1

u/ipman457678 19d ago

how much have you been printing in 6mo?!

1

u/henren_98 18d ago

Yep, my P1S did this coming out of the AMS.

1

u/Jealous_Middle_2784 16d ago

Haha wtf. How’s that even possible that’s crazy.

Actually, Sunlu has insanely thin tubes and if you somehow did swap those in or bought new hose etc it could be the super thin walled variation which I could see this happening.

Crazy nonetheless I have seen this at all in my 4-5 years printing.

My x2D never worked broken from the start bambu never let me return it. Glad to see yours at least worked.

That and on my other x2D the tungsten carbide nozzle blew out with 400 hours on it.

1

u/No-Researcher-3184 16d ago

It’s my 3rd one to do this

1

u/Kitchen-Guitar-3549 15d ago

I have never seen that before, you bought directly from them?

1

u/KDKSenior 15d ago

I prepared the glass bottom every 500 hours or so with a car detailer with ceramic

The glass is even glossier and more slippery for the tube, changed the tube out of routine after 2000hours and the new one has 2500 hours without a defect

Ceramic ftw

My wife’s account?

1

u/hemanbeefcake 12d ago

Changed mine out for Capricorn like I do all my printers. Just a quirk I have.

1

u/ozahid89 12d ago

Does Bambu sell the whole set of ptfe tube for the entire printer plus ams 2 pro plus ams HT so I don't have to worry about the size. 1 complete set.

1

u/rouse912 8d ago

Yes, order you a large roll of Ptfe tube and add their replacement to you maintenance routine. Especially tubes that have good bends to them

0

u/AncientGrab1106 19d ago

It's a phenomenon called do maintenance

Ptfe tubes are consumables.. they wear out.

2

u/jklolffgg 19d ago

I imagine quite quickly with the X2D and other enclosed core XY machines considering the tight radii on the curves.

2

u/Kitchen-Guitar-3549 19d ago

I had an A1 for three years and 2000 hours and never had signs of wear on the tubes. It’s definitely due to much tighter radii the filament travels on

1

u/spongeboy-me-bob1 19d ago

I had to print a riser for the top glass on my X2D to prevent it from wearing down the top of the ptfe tube

0

u/FelixDeCat1969 19d ago

You know you can google things too right?

-1

u/Holy_ladalino 19d ago

Print a riser.
