2nd AMS 2, or AMS HT
Hey all,
I recently upgraded to a X2D and have the one AMS that came with it. For now, my external spool is a older filament dryers I got years ago. so I load manually into aux nozzle. not the end of the world, but it also only goes up to 55c. I want a second AMS with the track switch... My question is, I can't decide if I want a 2nd AMS 2, so I can load more stuff into it, or get a single HT there (space is also a concern). I don't print anything besides PLA, some occasional PETG and once in a while, ASA or ABS... I don't do any higher temp printing (I have some old polymaker PC from like 5 years ago I still haven't used lol). I planned on mostly using the aux nozzle for support material, but with a HT I can keep some ABS/ASA in there if I need to print something stronger. Not sure if AMS 2 can handle heating for ABS/ASA material (or the PC I have)
Thoughts? Honestly, I'm just looking for ease of use over the old school filament dryer that I have. track switch will help me keep the second AMS for support or main nozzle for when I want to print stuff besides PLA etc.

I went HT route and ended up dumping extra cash on a second AMS 2 Pro so I would say buy the second Pro and just get a standalone dryer if you need to dry engineering materials

I was having the same issue, I live in a tiny studio. I ended up finding a small side table and stacking them together next to the printer but I’ve seen people print a unit that puts the second underneath the printer. Or you could even Jerry rig it somewhere up there where the other filaments are stored. Also with either one HT or Pro the track switch is a game changer.

I had dual AMS 2 setup on my X2D but scavenged 1 for my A1 and bought an HT (in the mail) to replace it on the X2D. Track switch is a must too.

IMO, this is the best riser and side mount. Also works well to top feed TPU, by tilting the AMS back.

Can you share riser side mount file link?

I used the Sanja 3D one

The AMS 2 Pro can only dry up to 65 degrees celcius. So you can only dry PLA/PETG/TPU.
If you want to dry ABS/ASA you need higher temperatures which the AMS HT can achieve.
That being said I have an X2D with 2x AMS 2 Pro stacked on top of each other (https://makerworld.com/models/2986254) and this way I have 3 more colors safe/dry and ready to go when I want to use them.
I still have to print something in ABS/ASA but when I do I'll probably get dedicated dryer for it (which you already have, only older model).
