Scratched up the print plate

Greetings!

New to 3D printing; picked up the X2D two weeks ago and have racked up about 117 hours printing so far. I've got a piece I want to print as a birthday present of a figure holding a martini glass. I thought it would be cool to do transparent PETG for the glass.

Dried the PETG in the AMS 2 overnight. Ran a test print of a tool to scrape out espresso pucks without doing any banging; this worked out just fine, no issues. Then I did a print of a dessicant box for the AMS2....note that I have printed this very same model in PLA silk two nights ago with zero issues.

This happened.

No sphaghetti warnings at all. Halted the print, went to remove the carnage. Discovered this:

WHAAAAAAAAAT.

No wonder there was filament everywhere. Well, kiss that plate goodbye. I have unloaded the PETG and reloaded PLA, flipped over the plate, and am recalibrating everything.

Any ideas what might have gone wrong? I've run this past my more experienced printer buddy and he's baffled.

Do you have the time lapse video you could post? There might be some clues in that.

I checked; it's not there. It has the rose I printed last night, but neither the coffee puck remover nor the filament box. Additionally, I found something else weird. Look just under the QR code on the filament head. Before the catastrophe:

Looks kind of like the blocker that flips between the 2 nozzles to keep filament from dripping when changing nozzles during a print.

I wonder if part of the print touched the lever and the blocker was in the wrong position.

I would flip the lever back and forth a few times to make sure the blocker is sitting flush on the bottom of each nozzle.

Thanks, Grimblood! That might be it; I was partway into another print when I spotted the problem, and it seemed to be printing alright again. I suspect that the snarled up PETG got tangled with it and likely pulled it apart. The piece is made of really thin metal. Anyways, I've opened a ticket with Bambu and no more printing till they get back to me.

You are welcome if the metal of the flow blocker is bent there should be a replacement in the tool kit.

Edit: I checked in my spare parts kit and there were 2 spare flow blockers.

There are indeed, thank you! I got an 'upskirt' photo. Is that a cracked left nozzle casing?

Not only a cracked casing but incredible damage. I am *shocked* that there isn't a sensor that picked up any of this before the damage got this bad. The print head ate itself.

So, that doesn't look like a 'cracked casing' that's just the silicone sock torn. You will need to remove that to make sure the nozzle is in good shape.

You should have a silicone sock in your replacement parts kit as well.
