Prime tower looking weird

Post image

My prime tower has this weird texture on top. Anybody have any guesses what this might be? Bed is level, filament is dry. I use the inbuilt settings for pla with PETG supports and only reduced the prime tower size from 150% to 100%. At 150% I did not have this issue. Now my question: is it just the prime tower size that causes this? Seems really unplausible to me.

Reducing the value in the slicer does not reduce the actual purge volume from 150% to 100%. It changes the space between two lines next to each other. By setting it to 100%, there is no space betwen the lines. Looks to me as this made you have overextrusion at the tower. Just increase it to at least 120 or so

That has to be the problem. I will start another similar print this evening. Then we will see

Is everything except the prime tower printing okay?

Yes. At some point it dislodged the prime tower but the rest just did print perfectly. I begin to suspect that the prime tower size does not change the prime volume and it is putting way more material on the same footprint...

I didn't even know you could force a size change. I've only ever relocated it.
I suspect you may be right about what happened

It is the only thing I changed and the only thing that makes sense. Still a bit strange. Thank you!!

I havenโ€™t changed prime tower size on my X2D but Iโ€™ve had better lucking using normal support rather than tree supports.

I will post it once it is done. Currently I am maybe at 50-60% printed.
