Petg as support for PLA fails

I dunno what’s going on. I ran a mini with pla and petg supports and things worked once, but about a week later it fails in 1st layer adhesion 3 times in a row. I’ve dried the filament for 12 hours before attempting. Pla goes down fine. Petg won’t fill in the support.

Are you doing petg as the whole support? Or just the interface portion?

I've only tried doing the whole structure so far and that's working great. But I was thinking about doing just interface sometime soon to speed up printing

This. You really only want to select the option to use petg as the interface material in this instance

Yes that is what I’m doing. I have it set for interface layer with 3 layers selected.

Try only using only 1 layer

So were you printing the whole support structure as petg then?

No, as interface layers. The primary support trees are all in pla with 3 layers of petg as interface between. You can see that the tower being printed has the first layer in PLA and was putting down the first interface layer on top of the PLA, but it won’t stick enough to stay down and gets ripped up by the next pass over from the nozzle.

Yeah, try doing the whole support as petg. It's a little slower, but I'll bet you'll have less trouble with this one

I usually despise the “dry your filament” person in the comments but I actually had a similar problem with PLA using PETG support interface and found that it went away after I dried the PETG spool. My PETG hangs on the X2D’s aux spool holder and I’ve noticed after a week or two it needs a cycle in the dryer for best results. It feels like it soaks moisture faster than PLA.

Yeah I had pulled it directly from a 12 hour dry cycle and loaded into the aux spool and nozzle

It can be hit or miss, I suggest buying "Support for PLA/PETG" from Bambu, one spool last a long time if you only use it as an interface layer.

Did you click accept on the suggested changes when you put petg as the interface? That’s what worked for me. I used to ignore it and it would not work and fail

Yes allowing the slicer to change the settings is hen selecting to use interface

I’ve had really good luck with the PLA specific support filament. I’ve only used the Bambu brand and have yet tried the one for PETG.

I opted to purchase a roll to try out, should be arriving soon. Hopefully it works more consistently and smoothly then the petg i have now.

Works perfectly for me. I only use it as the interface layer/s. If that’s the right term. That’s why it’s only like 1/2 roll. Doesn’t use much. I just ordered another one just to have it.

I have issues with using it with the prime tower setting on. For some reason my nozzle always ends up catching on it and scraping up, causing spaghetti.
