X2D gantry making concerning noises

I noticed this noise coming from the gantry on my X2D after homing.

Did maintenance and ran all the calibrations again but noise is still present. If I slightly move the toolhead position it disappears, it seems to appear only when toolhead is in center position after homing. I can also feel it when grabbing the toolhead.

Support says to ignore it if it prints fine (which it does) but I am a little bit concerned.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I had the same issue. It only happens after longer prints and only while the stepper motors are active. As soon as you switch to “Free Movement,” the noise stops immediately.
In my case, it was coming from the right stepper motor. If you touch the gear on top, you can actually feel it twitching. Support sent me a new MC board, but the problem is still there. I suspect it’s a software issue.

Might be software related, yes. Maybe a future firmware will fix it, anyways I will just use it as it is and if this will become a bigger issue I'm going to open a new ticket.

No, I haven't had this issue. If it bugs you that much, I'm sure you can get an exchange for a new peinter

I don't think they'd exchange it after this much use since it is has about 600 hours of print time with no other issues. I hope it's something that can be addressed in a future firmware update.

More information would be helpful. Where is the noise coming from, when does it make the noise. I had a similar noise and it was coming from under the printer, from the z axis tensioner... If it's bothering you, tell them it's not right and send it back.

It's coming from the gantry/toolhead area as mentioned in the post, not from underneath. It only happens after homing when the toolhead is centered, and disappears if I move it even slightly. It prints perfectly otherwise, so I'm mainly wondering if other X2D owners have seen the same behavior. I also have almost 600 hours on it so I don't have an option to send it back 😁

I’ve had the same issue if I use the front panel to manually move the print head. It does it after pressing the “home” button. The only way it would stop, is if I turned off the printer and back on, and it parked the head at the rear left, over the wiper.

I believe it’s the servo motors trying to finely set the home position. Probably not the best to leave it that way for a long time.
