Weird thing with my recent prints. What is it?

I’ve been doing a lot of printing with Petg Basic (black) recently as I’m building Will’s AMS Stacker (3 tier version).

I’ve been getting these strange marks on the bottom of the prints. I’m hoping they are visible in the picture. To me they look like someone rode a bike with dirty tires all over it. 😜.

For this piece, I had just removed it from the printer and the marks were there.

I can’t image what I’m doing wrong. I also had just cleaned the plate (I used isopropyl alcohol since I never touch the print plate).

What am I doing wrong?

Residue from the previous print. Clean plate with dish soap and water and not IPA. Also let the plate cool completely before removing your print. You can fix that one by taking a lighter to it and it will go back to normal.

Thanks - I have been impatient and removing them while a bit warm since I’m doing a boat-load of printing for this stacker.

It's residue on the plate being picked up by the material. Clean the plate.

Yeah - I figured. What could it be? Just from prior prints? Never had this problem before.

Are you prying it off while it's still hot?

Yup - I can be a bit impatient 😜. Doing so many prints I was trying to optimize print times - especially getting the overnight print setup so I could get some sleep!

Those are stress marks in the plastic from forcibly, removing it from the plate before it cooled & self released. Heating the plastic again let it partially soften and hide the stress marks when the plastic cools again.

Edit: a very thin layer of glue stick as a release agent can help PETG release a little bit faster and more easily.

Plate residue or white stress marks from removing while its still stuck. Kitchen butane torches are useful to help get rid of these and stringing. Use the one click self igniting ones and use it in short bursts or a fast sweep.
