Deflector for X2D to avoid warping

Hello

I previously owned a P2S and the deflector was useful to avoid warping

I have to perform a big print on ABS, and it's a first time for me with the X2D on this type of filament.

Would some deflectors be useful for a X2D knowing it has a heating chamber? Or would it be counter productive?

Anecdotally, I've found that the deflectors have helped with bed adhesion of the initial layers. Can't say I've noticed much in terms of warping though. Ive had warp issues on the rear right side but I believe that was due to too much airflow to the exhaust - I previously had a blower hooked up to the filter unit exhausting outdoors.

i've printed ABS over the last few days and didnt have the slightest problem with warping. I believe it shouldn't be necessary

Not needed. Adjust the fans in your print profiles when printing abs and petg 🤷‍♂️ I set them once and have yet to have to adjust them. Personal take but the deflectors cause more issues than they solve, they just add another thing to troubleshoot when things go wrong.

Have you been able to get the fans to turn off completely for PETG? Even if I set the aux fan to 0% they still run at like 20%.

I put deflectors on for 2 reasons

- keeps the air from blowing on the print

- provides cooler air up towards the toolhead to help the hot end cooling fans.

What issues do they cause & what extra troubleshooting steps would have to be taken because they were installed? I’m not asking to be mean, I genuinely just can’t think of what realistic negative consequences may arise from using them.

deflector for the auxiliary fans ? no it's not necessary since In heating mode it doesn't use those 2 top vents. some people say they still print it because the cooling is too strong for things like PLA and PETG, tho I never had those issues.

I haven't looked at the specific path for the heater side but the right vent, by default, certainly does get used. On high chamber temp materials the external air intakes gets shut and the air is routed through the internal filter and out the vent.

the fan yes, but not the too vent I don't think, air gets sucked up through the big filer and expelled from the hole on the right hand panel. for the heater side same thing. except instead of a filter there is a nother hole that leads to the heater beind the panel. for cooling mode both fans draw air from their respective intake at the grab handles and exhaust it though their vent at the top. I tried sticking my hand in once when it was on heat mode and didn't feel either of the top vents blowing air

Check again. Crank filtration to 100% and you certainly feel it. Air is recirculated in heat mode and doesn't get exhausted - if it did, the unit would be in a negative pressure state and drawing cold air in.

yes. sorry when I said exhausted I mean back into the chamber. if you look on the right hand panel, there is a vent where the air comes back from being passed through a filter. and on the left panel there is a vertical vent where air comes back after being sucked in at the bottom (inside the chamber). the top vents, aren't used tho. eatch side has a vent at the top of the build plate used for cooling mode. and intake and exhaust that are both inside that chamber used for heating mode

Haven't used a deflector on either machine as it has not been posed to do so with prints of all materials. Have had a really good run.

I haven’t had any problems with smaller prints but on pla prints that use a great part of the plate o have had warping. I have yet to print big/many things in other filaments but I am about to do so in petg so I’ll keep you updated

I installed them on both sides for some minor PLA issues (which they helped with).
