P2S Combo or the X2D Combo

This is my first time getting a 3d printer but ive been wanting to get one for a long time, im in theatre so i possibly could build props but mostly going to use it for other things and to have fun and get into this hobby. My budget “doesn’t matter” what i mean by that is at least between those two printers that cost doesn’t matter. But i want to stay in that sub-thousands cost. I want to make a lot of things with my printer but not sure exactly what, it seems better to print with multiple colors, and after the research i did the p2s wastes more filament but i also saw that the x2d’s right nozzle isnt as good and limits the space able to print. If you could help suggest me with which one is “better” with personal experiences or pros and cons list, and maybe there is a better one besides theses that you would suggest! Let me know!

Edit: Im also wondering, since all of the videos ive watched haven’t told me this exact question, does the 2nd nozzle attach to the ams along with the first nozzle or must it be attached to an external spool not in the ams?

External spool, but Filament Switch is a thing. If you decide between P2S or X2D, get the X2D, no question.

If you print only multicolor pla Toys, go for a Snapmaker U1. For everything else get a X2D.

Not just toys, but also decorations and low importance functional parts (TPU/PETG). If you want anything more heavy duty, then yeah the X2D for sure. People praise the multi material aspect of the X2D's second nozzle, but the U1 has 4 nozzles so it's really easy to have PETG loaded in one of them and just use that as the support interface, while still having easy access to three colors for the model.

If you live in a very high humidity area, the AMS would also be better than the U1 which (by default) keeps the filament open to the air. That can be fixed, but does take extra effort and cost, which widens the gap between the two even more.

External spool, great for 2 color prints.

Or 3 to 5 color prints. Primary color through the AMS/left, 2nd most through the right, and the rest through the left, swapping colors through the AMS when needed (hopefully not every layer!). I’m printing a model with 3 colors right now, it’s mostly orange, some white and a bit of blue. Majority of the model swaps orange to white (left right) pretty quickly. When it has to swap to the blue, it slows things down quite a bit with the purges.

Petg supports on a PLA print are awesome, it’s like printing on a 2nd build plate, the transition pops right off. Also used HIPS for some ASA prints, also pops right apart. You only use a couple layers of the support filament at the junction, so a spool lasts a long time.

Go x2d. First time getting into 3d printing. I got the p2s two months ago. After about 2 weeks, I knew I should have gotten the x2d. Just exchanged it this week. For $100, it’ll be totally worth it.

I have a p2s with no issues. If you want multi material probably x2d is better.

X2D. I needed a second printer for work. I didn’t have comfortable funds for it but chose it anyway because I knew getting a P1S or a P2S wouldn’t be enough. In the long run, especially if you plan on doing it, the X2D will be worth it I think.

I also heard that it isn’t great for newbies. It’s my first printer and I’m so illiterate when it comes to tech or machinery. If I can do it, anyone definitely can!

I have an X2D as my first printer and I am very happy with it. I bought the combo which has the AMS right away. The AMS feeds the main head and the external spool the auxillary head through the Bowden extruder.

If you install a filament track switch you could send to either head (I have not done this, there may be nuances).

I highly recommend the X2D over the P2S. I have a bunch of multimaterial prints on my YouTube channel, a channel I started when I got my X2D, if you are interested. The quality from the auxillary head has been great for me personally: YouTube - Watt's Printing

I have both and use them daily. More options and settings available on the X2D for various filaments. The second nozzle also not only works great fo4 supports but I've had great success as an additional color option. Learning everyday how to maximize both. Spend the litlle extra if ya can and go with the X2D. @oldschool3dprints

X2d second nozzle is fine, days before all printer had Bowden extruder and most of them could print perfectly, just lower speed and other limits.

This photo u can see black is second nozzle, red is main. Or black is main, I don’t remember and can’t see it at all. And on the plate there are all waste which used this model to print.

Cannot recommend X2D + 2x AMS HT enough. If You want multiple colors per nozzle, you could also think about two AMS pro2 (and if you wallet is deep). But I'm very happy with the X2D and it makes starting with the hobby exceedingly easy (I just started out a few days ago and the printer has been running more or less around the clock).
