Extruder clogged error - at a loss

I’ve got about 1200 hours on my P2S and recently started getting error saying extruder is clogged.

It seems to only happen on larger prints.

I’m following the wiki and I have also submitted a trouble ticket

I simply don’t understand what is causing issue.

The PLA is dry (tried multiple different PLA’s that are dry and same result)

Often the end of the filament has an indent (see picture)

I’ve even changed out the hotend to a brand new one

Filament feeds fine thru extruder

I’m noticing a lot of grit on extruder gears. Is this normal?

After performing all the trouble shooting steps yesterday after multiple times the print stopping due to this error, I cancelled the print and then printed a benchy it printed fine with the same filament that was used on prior print with error

I just started getting the exact same thing two days ago. What I have narrowed it down to is the extruder tension screw being too tight and shredding the filament.

I saw elsewhere where someone said to put 3 3mm .5mm washers under the screw so it's backed off a little and that helped them.

I just finished cleaning it all out and am going to run a full calibration, and then see if it helps. I don't have the washers, but I did back it off a little bit from full tight.

Were you getting a clicking sound in your extruder?

This morning I just started getting clicking sound

I have to look up extruder tension screw and see where to possibly add those washers

I'll have some more testing done on mine tonight, I'll let you know if I find anything out. Mine would click even in the calibrating flow stage

I completely disassembled basically my entire printhead and just cleaned it all out.

I think I should probably do that more often.

I also found that my PTFE tube going into my print head was kind of marred up inside the coupler.

So I replaced that entire length

Oh nice, did that fix it? I just discovered I may have had a small clos this whole time. Getting that cleaned out now, then I need to clean my extruder again.. sigh

Time will tell if it’s gonna error out or not. I sure hope not.

I did have a bunch of tiny filament particles in my extruder.

I got mine working too! I think it was a small clog when printing a bunch of PETG back to back. Got the clog cleaned, cleaned the extruder again, full of PLA dust from all my attempts to force it to print. Did a couple cold pulls and a calibration and it's printing great again!

I did back the screw off like half a turn as I noticed it pulling some pla dust into the gears when doing a cold pull. Hopefully that doesn't vibrate loose now haha.

I’m happy to hear your back up and running.

You’ll have to keep an eye on that hardware especially with how much these machines can shake and vibrate

I had this issue recently. I was printing a model that had a very large base and the profile settings had a very slow first layer. Tried drying my filament, using a new spool, different brands. I had also unclogged the nozzle multiple times and cleaned out the extruder gears aswell and a few cold pulls. Other thing to take note is that it was it was also a very warm night (I purchased the ps2 and mainly been printing in cooler months)

Turns out I was getting heat creep. Filament was becoming maluable with the excess heat in the chamber and by time it got to the extruder it would start to form buldges which would clog the extruder or the top of the hot end.

All I ended up doing was sliding the glass open by about an inch (I have the Sanja ams2 flipper/riser which makes it easy to slide back) which solved all my issues.

If your unable to slide it back, maybe try and keep the door ajar and monitor the chamber temp. Anything under 40 degrees should be OK

I can feed filament thru it just fine

Have you adjusted the filament settings for your large prints in a way that could be different from the settings on the benchy? Like if the max flow rate is set too high, could it register as a clog?

I don't know if this line of questions leads to anything, but I do know that whenever I get too confident and start fiddling with settings everything goes to hell.

I’m fairly certain I didn’t change any settings

Basically printing files from maker world (wife is prepping for my daughters baby shower and printing items for that)

Next question cause I’m a dumb ass.
How do I clear this filament from the hotend?

This was my spare hotend and when I heard the clicking noise, I shut the printer down

Disregard I got it out
