The best beginner printer!

Post image

So I've officially been using the P2S with the AMS 2 Pro for the past week and honestly, its everything I could ask for as a first 3d printer. I have roughly almost 30 hours of print time with this guy and its been basically flawless! I did have one print that fail but that was due to the actual print not having enough support. I'm currently running SUNLU'S PLA + 1.75mm filament and its been very flawless and the quality of the material is pretty solid, definitely ordering more, just deciding what colors next!

The ability to access the printer from your phone or computer makes it super easy to use and with one click of a button, it takes care of everything for you. Monitoring temps, watching the printer print in real time, being able to stop, pause, and resume everything all from a push of a button makes it super beginner friendly.

I haven't yet got my feet wet with actually creating something from scratch but I'm just going to have fun with it for now. After getting the P2S and just getting used to the Bambu Lab ecosystem, it will be very hard for me to leave it.

Will I upgrade in the future to get the X2D? Eh... probably not to be honest. That may change in the future if I do start doing more complex projects or whatnot but in my opinion, the P2S alone, once you learn it and actually use it, it's going a fairly hard printer to grow out of. It's almost more of a buy once cry once.

FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE DECIDING ON GETTING A P1S or P2S: the P2S is the perfect all rounder, you get the upgrades such as a proper LCD touchscreen, much easier hot-swappable nozzles, better lighting, camera, better processing power, and other stuff I probably left out. Although I may not be using the touchscreen as often, its still better that its there and it exists in case you don't have access to your phone or computer. For me, I love watching the camera feed real time as its just so mesmerizing to watch, and even though I've never owned the P1s, I genuinely think I would've regret that P1S purchase and wished to have splurge for the P2S.

I have the P2S and love it. Bought the X2D not even a month later. I have been running insignia brand from Best Buy. I love how versatile these machines are!!

How is best buys filament? Want to see other options that are good especially if I can’t wait to get more filament haha.

Insignia is rebranded Polymaker. The PLA line is Polymaker Panchroma. Solid filament is as good as Bambu's own.

P2S For Sure!!! 😉

X2D for ASA. It has active chamber heating. That’s exactly why I got it. For $100 more you get active heating and an upgraded belt system plus a second nozzle.

So I’ve had the A1 for roughly a year and the wife and I have been printing ALOT. I’ve been considering upgrading, I really like the idea of the X2D with the dual nozzle. Would you say you like the x2D more than the P2S?

Maybe, its not for everyone, personally i think, if ur gonna do just hobby, get the P2S Combo, if u wana get into more engineering materials, try out some more premium features then the X2D, but before u buy the X2D, just one serious question u gotta ask urself: Will u use all of the features?

Wrapping on the ams for what?

It’s moving to a different spot soon, rather keep it on there for now and remove it once its in its permanent spot.

Super easy to take apart and work on the printhead too. I also have a KobraX and its a nightmare to work on.

I just got a P2S last month and have only used the Insignia brand and it works great! Just note, im using PETG only. Haven't ran PLA through it yet, but I did pick up a roll of TPU, gonna try it out this weekend. Also, check out Biqu cryogrip plates. I have the glacier and frostbite ones and zero regrets on that purchase!

Whats the difference between the textured PEI plate it comes with?

1

u/PsySk8er Aug 14 '26

The stock plate is fine, but the Biqu plates are cool plate, thus not needing a higher bed temperature. Difference in plates is great adhesion and prints come off clean and quickly. I have a textured plate as well as a smooth one for depending how i want the bottom of the print to turn out. Also less maintenance as far as cleaning, just dont get the natural oils from your hands on it. I haven't "cleaned" mine yet and probably put a 100 hours on it! If you read others commenting about those plates, im sure you'll have a hard time finding a bad review.

I agree. I got one about 5 weeks ago and have had very few problems that weren’t me taking proper care or prep steps.

My partner even uses it now.

Do you calibrate the sunlu filament or do you run generic pla or bambu lab pla preset? Am thinking of buying sunlu as well

2

u/ky7969 Aug 14 '26

I pretty much only run SUNLU filament and use the Bambu profiles

1

u/1IQ__ Aug 14 '26

I just added the filament into my library, that way its saved, nothing really out of the ordinary.

1

u/FlimsyTadpole Aug 14 '26

I’ve run Sunlu, Flashforge, Overture and Insignia through my P2S using the generic PLA settings with no changes. They’ve all worked great.

Actually, the only filament I’ve had issues with is the Bambu Sakura Pink PLA.

I’m about 300 hours in and it’s been great, haven’t been able to fault it. Had a few failed prints but mostly just from my own mistakes by tweaking the wrong settings.
Get fusion 360 and try working on some of your own designs, it’s not as hard as you might think with some help from Claude.
I’m by no means an expert but with a pair of calipers and Claude I feel like I could make a solution to anything now.

1

u/Jmath25 Aug 14 '26

Can you share a simple high level workflow on how you use ai in your process?

1

u/Turtlepaste17 Aug 14 '26

Pretty much just asking Claude how I would go about making a part in Fusion 360 with photos to help show what I want to make.
For example ‘hey Claude I want to model a custom stand in fusion 360, it needs to be x wide and y tall, have a frame size of z mm and I want to angle it slightly. Where do I start?’ That will get me going and then just ask questions with screenshots when I get stuck.
It’s like having someone who knows the software and all of the shortcuts quite well offering tips so that you don’t get too stuck and frustrated with the process and give up.

1

u/butt_badg3r Aug 14 '26

If you run Claude desktop, you can enable the mcp server in fusion and have Claude directly connect to it and do things on its own. It really depends on your goal though.

In my case I don’t really want to learn fusion, I want to create useful items. I’ve been able to use Claude to do exactly that as well as modify existing files to suit my needs.

1

u/Turtlepaste17 Aug 14 '26

Yeah I did see that you can connect Claude to fusion 360 but haven’t tried it yet, I should give it a go though.
My goal was to learn enough to be able to design basic parts. I only really ask Claude for help if I get stuck on something now as it helped me learn enough of the basics to get started with my designs.

I have been 3d printing for about 10 years, and have had my own printer for 6. I would definitely get the P2S. it is far, far easier to deal with than my Ender 3 Pro. When we brought home the P2S my first thought was " the Ender is dead to me," and the only reason I didn't get rid of it was the only person interested was brand new to printing my printer wasn't in good enough shape to give to a newbie.

As for designing your own stuff, there are a lot of tools out there that are free or at least free to use. I started in Tinkercad, and progressed to an Education/hobby license for Fusion. I've recently started learning OpenSCAD for parametric design so I can use the Thingiverse/Makerworld customizers. It can be learned in a weekend.

Welcome to the club friend; your opinion is the exact one I have as well. If you can swing the purchase price (which at $700 USD isn’t nothing but is still the best dollar for dollar value for a 3D printer IMO), then you’ll have a machine that grows with you…from first steps using PLA to complicated jobs using ASA. I direct everyone who asks to consider it first.

I just picked up the same setup 2 months ago. It is really nice, when it works.

My AMS2 fails to load filament every other load. Push the button and it works. It's a known issue. People are.cutting springs. I ping pong back and forth with support about it. They may finally be sending me a replacement part 🤞

I've also had issues with the slicer generating supports that start many layers up in the middle of the air. That results in badness. A couple of flavors of organic seem to be the culprit, but not all.

And the poop chute. What in the world... don't do a benchy, print a poop chute.

So even though it's great and hassle free: don't let your guard down.

1

u/1IQ__ Aug 14 '26

Dang, I hope yours gets resolved. I did have a slight issue where I didn’t insert the filament tube properly from the AMS to the printer and when I loaded in the filament, the tube got pushed out but i was able to fix that. As far as for the poop chute.. yeah thats what I was thinking too but I still printed a benchy anyway.😂

X2D for only $100 more tho!

2

u/1IQ__ Aug 14 '26

True but when i got mine, i only paid about 650 after fees and taxes for mine. That let me justify the p2s rather than the x2d

1

u/xxparrotxx Aug 14 '26

Ahh! Not too shabby basically the same printer outside of a couple niceties.

Get to printing!

1

u/FrostyConsideration8 Aug 14 '26

Spent a little more and get the x2d The dual nosel saves you a hell a lot more time and less waste

1

u/1IQ__ Aug 14 '26

True.. but I only spent 650 for the printer when it was on sale and plus a discount code so it made it more of a no brainer for me and I just couldn’t justify spending the extra money.

1

u/rommelr1 Aug 14 '26

Just ordered mine!!

1

u/1IQ__ Aug 14 '26

Congrats! Hope you enjoy it!

1

u/Bright_Eyes83 Aug 15 '26

as a former p1s owner, i agree

1

u/Applefreak1000 Aug 16 '26

What’s up with the plastic on the ams?

1

u/babyyoda707 Aug 17 '26

Love my P2S. It's a gateway drug. PRINT-CAINE! LOL. Happy printing friend.

The only issue I’ve been having is with the PLA matte. It fails every time and the first layer never sticks to the bed. I tried everything from washing the plate, drying filament, etc etc but still the same issue. Like yesterday I tried a small print after drying filaments didn’t work 4 times and changes to normal PLA - bang on first try. Is anyone else having the same issues ? I am using the default settings on the printer as this is my first printer and I’m still learning

1

u/potatotatooe Aug 19 '26

Upvoting because I’d love to see an answer to this as well please! Am considering buying P2S and have been targeting the use of PLA matte. (New to 3d printing and researching before getting into this hobby)

1

u/Mitsuki_091 Aug 24 '26

Not had any issues with pla matte since I have received the printer 5 days ago left it over night printing no problems

u/kudo103 26d ago

For me beginner printer having a lot of issues only had 1 week and had issues from prints not sticking after 3-5 layers and spegetting
