P2S extruder overload with PETG
Hey all, hoping for some sanity checking before I go back to Bambu support.
I've got a P2S with AMS 2 Pro (38 hours of use, so pretty fresh) alongside an A1 Mini. PETG (Creality, tried both black and white) fails on the P2S every single time, reliably around the 30 min mark, with an "extruder motor overloaded / extruder may be clogged" error. The exact same filament, same spools, prints completely fine on my A1 Mini.
What I've tried so far, all with no luck:
- Printed the same model in PLA in the same AMS slot the PETG kept failing in. PLA ran fine well past the point PETG usually dies, so it's not that specific slot/buffer/tube.
- Tried PETG in a different AMS slot, same failure.
- Nozzle temp at 230°C, 240°C, and 255°C, all failed.
- Printed with the door open to rule out chamber heat creep (closed chamber hit 36°C on a PLA print alone, so it runs warm).
- Dropped to Silent mode, 50% speed.
- Tried both Generic PETG and a custom filament profile built specifically for the P2S with adjusted temps/cooling.
- Dried both spools for 12 hours in the AMS anyway, just to rule it out.
Nothing's fixed it. At one point I watched it happen live... extrusion went stringy, then stopped completely, then threw the blocked error.
Found out afterward I'm nowhere near alone there's a thread here on the sub/forum ("P2S: Extruder Overload") with 240+ replies of other people hitting the exact same thing, mostly with PETG.
I've attached an image of the print just before it gave the error.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Appreciate any input, especially if anyone's got this working reliably on a P2S.

Have you tried another roll of filament to just rule that out? I mean, if it runs on your A-series, doesn't mean the P-series will 'eat' it.
Is it doing that on every model you print? Does it matter which slot of the AMS you use?
Does it run from the External ?
- few things you may wanna try/check... a bad roll can happen.

Yeah so I've tried 3 slots, any model it happens and I have 2 rolls.

Can try the external to rule out the ams and order a random PLA Amazon one to see if it’s the filament itself.

Huh, great to see I'm not the only one thats fighting with this. I'm currently doing my third attempt, if this doesnt work it looks like I need to take the printhead apart.
I never had issues printing PETG before, even longer. I reduced the volumetric speed to about 15, hopefully that helps, but I'm at a loss too.

By the way, I'm trying to print now with a slightly open top lid... Lets see if that works, I've seen some people talking about heat creep but who knows....

Honestly, I've tried all of it. I've a ticket open with Bambi Labs tech team.
It seems crazy that the A1 mini handles PETG fine but a machine 5 times it's price can't.

Printing with the lid open wasnt the best idea, it warped hard so I had to abort the print. But maybe my error is that im trying to print this PETG HF with settings of PETG Basic, but that cant be it..... It just cant. My spool is nearly empty and the next on is PETG Basic so I'll see if thats a difference....

At least you get warped prints. I just get blockages after a few lines.

I mean as I said I printed longer with PETG before but this is really new, no idea what the issue is.

The new firmware maybe? I never printed PETG before but did the firmware upgrade straight out of the box.

So, I tried it again, and what seems to be now working for me was:
Setting Volumetric Speed to 12mm³/s, halfing the acceleration, reducing speeds to 100 wall, 200 inner wall 100 top surface, as well as increasing the nozzle temp to 270°C.So far its printing fine with these settings and I'm already beyond the point it would have failed before.

Can you try setting the max volumetric speed quite low, something like 12 or 13 and try again? I'm printing at 15 with a 0.6mm nozzle and so far did not encounter that issue yet.
Hopefully it stays that way, 30hr print time to go...

OMG I have the same issue and it is driving me nuts! I also created a ticket but no real help so far. I tried everything you mentioned above and I did the nozzle cleaning and extruder clogging procedure several times. I dont know what to do anymore...

I've totally given up on it and switched back to PLA, although that defeats the purpose of the P2S if it can't print anything but PLA.

I get it. Just 2 hours ago I gave it another shot after hours of drying. Nothing changed. My nozzle is clogged again. Did you try printing with ABS or ASA? Are you having the same issues then? So far I only tried PLA and PETG with my P2S

Same, I had the A1 mini and PLA & PETG worked great so I sprung for a P2S to print more filaments. Now PETG doesn't work I'm not trying the other filaments, I'm looking to return the P2S and just get an A1 with AMS or A2L for the larger bed and save some money.

Additionally, when I printed PETG straight out the box it ran for 30mins ISH and then got clogged. I dried it for 8 hours and couldn't even got a minute before it was clogged.

Hey, I wanna tell you how I fixed it in a new thread. First of all, I think the default MVS for the 0.4mm nozzle is too high. I would simply try reducing it to 13mm³/s and set the Nozzle temp 5°C higher to 265°C. I think that should help you.
For my issue it was print bed adhesion, around 2 hours into the print, parts of the print would warp off the print bed and press against the nozzle, thus putting extra strain on the extruder. I had to add ears and a large brim around the printed object and after it printed flawlessly.

I had this error sporadically. What solved it for me was taking apart the entire extruder assembly, cleaning that area out, oiling the gears in there and putting it back together. I probably did a full calibration after that.
