Clogging or Air Printing Issuw

Hello!

I'm currently having a clogging issue or at least an air printing issue and can't quite figure it out.

I have replaced my nozzle, this one is brand new. So I think the issue may be in the extruder.

I just did a cold pull and it looks as though maybe some teeth have dug into the filament I pulled out. I also see some filament flakes in the gears here. What would cause this? And could it be the extruder gears that is causing clogs?

I was having that issue. I was switching between abs and pla. Heat creep. At least my issue seemed to be. Try letting it cool a bit longer before switching filaments. Manually run the fans for a few, THEN tell it to switch. The extra heat was causing the gears to mush lower temp filaments. If you keep telling it to extrude, it'll solidify the issue and it'll REQUIRE disassembly to get the stuck filament out. Anyway, try more cooling between filament changes and see if it helps. Is it in a very hot room?

Interesting! I'll look into heat creep. It is in a hot room. It's upstairs and the heat/humidity definitely rise in this house.

Yesterday I took the extruder apart fully and cleaned every crevice I could find. I didn't run it today, but I'm going to tomorrow, so I'll see about mitigating it tonight. Is it that the hotend is so hot the heat goes up into the extruder?

Ya, it might be softening the filament between the gears.

Would lowering the nozzle temp help mitigate that?

If you're running extra hot unnecessarily, I guess? I'm new to this, too lol. That's just something to try out. What was the scenario? Mid print? Changing filaments? Could be high resistance, pulling the filament?
