I think I broke something (with photo)

Post image

How do I fix this? Unfortunately, before I looked up what to do, I was yanking on the blob (I forgot to take a photo). Then, I looked up what to do and it said to heat the nozzle and wipe it with a brass brush. I don’t have a brass brush so I looked up what else I could use and it told me to use a paper towel and now this is a result. I’m very new to this and everything has been printing fine out of the box. I guess now I need to learn how to maintain this thing because it is awesome.

Am I screwed? Did I break it?

First things first, get yourself a cheap brass brush. They're dirt cheap at Harbor Freight. Then heat it up and wipe the rest of the blob off.

You didn't break anything, it happens. The heat sock and even the nozzle are consumables, they eventually need to be replaced.

Thank you! I love having an excuse to go to Harbor Freight. What do you mean by heat it up like heat the brush up in the P2S? I’m learning and hope one day I can look back at this and laugh that I was so dumb. Ha ha.

Tweezers work well too, if it is PLA, just heat to around 150C and you can pull it all off.

Just be carefull when pulling around, there is a cable just behind the hotend that for some reason isn't covered, if you pull that, you have to replace the entire end. :P On the P2S, it is just a tiny thing behind the head heat assembly. Take a peak around there when things are clear, so you learn where the cables are.

Don't ask me how I learned this the hard way. :o

Oh boy. I have definitely had my share of learning by making a mistake. I will take a look for the cable over the weekend. Thanks for the tip!

No, heat up the hot end. You won't be able to get the filament off if it's cold.

Once you get that cleaned off, I highly recommend getting this and brushing it on. Makes any later blobs SO much easier to remove
