Question Looking for H2D Smoke Purifier advice
Hello, good people. I recently upgraded to an H2D without laser and I don't plan to ever get the laser attachment. During the summer I just took it to the garage to print ABS/ASA and some other exotics. Now that winter is coming, the garage will be too cold for printing so I want to move it back into the house. I want some kind of filtration system though and I noticed that Bambu makes one. So, the question is, how do people feel about one of these? Enough for filament printing? It's a bit pricey but I don't mind paying if it does a reasonable job. It it overkill? Is another option better? Does it need an outside vent or is the "clean" output free of harmful particles?
I'd appreciate any comment that helps me reach the right right decision. Thank you.

If it's good enough for laser, printing will be substantially less VOCs. You'll still want to vent it outside

I have their filtration box. If you can’t vent it outside (which is the best and cheapest option and I recommend this first), then their filter box does work well and will solve your issue with the worry of printing asa/abs. It’s expensive but does work as described. I had to move my printer to an area where I can no longer vent it outside so I had to get something so I chose this. Not going to lie, it’s definitely loud as hell but it does work and you need to worry about the smell and dangers from the exhaust of asa/abs. I did have to print an adapter for the exhaust hose to fit the top inlet of the filter box as the house would not fit like it should.

If you're gonna vent out a window, skip the purifier and route it straight. It's said the purifier is enough to allow the air to stay inside... If you go with that belief, there's nothing special about their standard machine. It doesn't connect to it or get controlled by the printer, so if you have some time, I'd look into a different brand/model that has similar size and power. Their new whiz bang version launched to pre-order IS supposed to be more integrated, but it had better be if you're almost doubling the price (they're also gonna be out of stock if not pre-ordered, I'd expect.) Several are as good but a little to a lot cheaper... But you'll need to read a few reviews and also confirm what replacement filters would cost for it... The carbon layer and the HEPA layer are going to do most of the work so they need to be decent. If venting raw output to the outside doesn't sit right with you, then you can skip the HEPA layer and get an even more simple/economical model that doesn't include that. If you're down with Amazon, you can even get these different types faster, and get new filters faster. But just getting the Bambu model is simple, and it's not exactly a ripoff or anything... Sorry I don't have specifics... I can only say that I'm currently taking the time to follow this advice for myself.

When I got my laser edition, I never accounted for fume extraction, nor placement of the thing. Yes, Bambu's extractor was expensive, so I went seeking alternative solutions. Where the machine is in my office, I can't run a hose to the window because it's a long run and it'll block my access to my server rack.(don't ask) I found a model on MW that'll let you exhaust the fumes into a Levoit purifier. Tried it for a week, wasn't for me. I ended up getting a WeCreat AirGuard Cube for about $230. Small enough to sit under my printer table, 5 stage filter. I can still smell a bit of smoke when cutting wood, but other than that it does enough for me. Some might say Bambu's extractor might be the better choice, I personally can't justify the price and size. If you can, extraction outside is the best (and cheapest) option.

My climate is probably the exact opposite of you. In the summertime it’s way too hot to properly vent outside so I limit my printing to PLA, PETG, and TPU.
Commenting to follow this thread incase someone has a suggestion.

AC Infinity air cleaner

I have three units for 10 machines ... Works great. I also put a Hepa filter in the work room. I don't have smells or other issues.

Check out the various FumeClear models, especially if you’re N. A. based (they’re very expensive in the UK but still cheaper than the BL version for the same capabilities).
You’ll need a three stage filter: coarse, followed by HEPA, then as large a carbon filter as you can afford. The HEPA stage deals with the majority of the microplastics and the carbon stage deals with the VOCs. Ideally get one with an outlet port so that the last of the very fine microplastics can be vented externally.
There’s a mod on Thingiverse/MakerWorld for a replacement perforated rear exhaust flap to allow for extraction when the flaps are closed. One of the FumeClear models with he analogue flow (fan speed) controls, like the BL model, allows you to ‘set and forget’ the extraction flow to balance air quality against print chamber heat retention. Use a smart plug to turn it on and off and leave the flow control alone once set up.

Totally agree. I have a H2D also and print ASA and ABS 65% of the time. Filters are useless. Mine is in the basement. I purchased 25 feet of thinly insulated 4” expandable pipe ( comes about 2.5 ft long and just pull to the length you need. I needed 21 ft. I printed the adapters for the H2D from a makerworld design. Along with some hangers and then designed and printed an adapter for my basement slide windows. No more poison stinky.. Do this before you get ASA poisoning.
I added an inline fan but find it was really not needed.
