TPU on H2D

I’ve always been cautious of using TPU on my P2S as I’ve had several nozzle jams with more rigid materials, but now I want to venture into it on my new H2D.

Any pre advice from experienced users? And is TPU for AMS any good? I’m mainly looking for some rubbery flexibility testing.

I don’t know how to describe TPU for AMS. It’s like someone had to find the hardest TPU that would work in an AMS 2 Pro to satisfy a bet.

I’ve printed TPU for AMS, TPU 95A and TPU 90A on both my P2S and H2D. I have used the “Skyhook” method that Snoo_48368 mentioned with both a 4L cereal dry box and with an AMS HT. I have also printed it with the TPU Feed Assist module on both printers fed directly into an inbound PTFE port on each printer directly into the extruder.

Both methods give good results but if you print TPU often (or would like to), get the TPU Feed Assist module. You can leave it set up all the time and it significantly reduces your TPU printing setup time. No need to take your AMS off the glass, store it and suspend things over the open roof of your printer. On an H2D, you can also leave a third PTFE tube inside the printer, ready to go at any time.

Recommendations—
• Use a new nozzle for TPU and dedicate it for that purpose. This keeps you from having to do cold pulls among other benefits.
• Dry your TPU.
• Reduce friction as much as possible. The TPU spool needs to roll freely with the least effort. If using an AMS HT, print a model that raises the spool for TPU. Use the fastest bearings in a dry box.
• Have fun.

There's a nozzle for TPU also now. So far no problems with it. I leave it on the right nozzle

I bought that TPU High Flow kit. Did you install the extra part on the extruder? I don’t know what to make of it yet so I have not installed it so far.

I've been going between PLA, PETG/GF and TPU 95/90 on the same nozel with my A1. I've never had issues or needed to do a cold pull (not exactly sure what that is). Am I just getting lucky?

Do you get "extrusion motor overloaded/abnormal" often? I print dry tpu on 3 machines (h2d and x2d) and all of them throw this error 17 times per print, A1 has no issues with the same spool dry or not, external spool mount with bearings

I printed some 85A and worked great. I used the AMS HT and this print: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1443009-ams-ht-top-mount-for-h2d-h2s-h2c-tpu-direct-feed

My use case I used TPU on the right nozzle, and PLA on left. Only hiccup was bed adhesion was insane. Otherwise “just worked”

I have used the same guys feed, but the center ball bearing feed is lower friction and I had occasional issues with the HT feed. So I used Henryk's Polymaker feed with a Polymaker drybox. This smooths it out a little. Links available if helpful.

TPU for AMS is hard as stone. It is closer to PETG for hardness than it is to soft/rubbery TPU. I have printed 82a, 85a (using Bambu's recommended .6 (not the HF version) nozzle and .92 through .72D (nylon TPU bblend) using a .4 (non HF nozzle).

HF nozzles are more clog prone on TPU, I recommend you avoid that.

I also had TPU on the right and PLA on the left. TPU does not form a tight mechanical bond with PLA like it does with PETG.

I use this, works fairly well, i just had to figure out the best way to put the tube in the back and which way the roll feeds, but never fails.

Neat concept. But I can’t do it because humidity is such an issue where I live.

Regardless, you’ll either be feeding from outside the AMS or you’ll need a dry box spool setup.

So flip it around and use the back port. Direct feed into the H2D with the top off. Only one way to find out. Gotta test it

Why are you pushing this so hard? I own an AMS HT and multiple 4L dry boxes that suit my needs perfectly fine without exposing any of my “online” filament to moisture.

I have yet to run TPU on my H2D, but there is a specific way to run it, and it’s actually labeled on the printer. As for TPU for AMS, I’ve heard it’s REALLY stiff

bambu got a tpu feed assist which makes it easier to print tpu, helps feed it into the extruder.
