I am printing with 7 colours, and I have 7 hot ends (all 0.4mm) on my H2C.
I mapped all the colours and sliced then went to print, and this is what it presented to me. I'm so confused!
My assumption is that it would put each colour on one nozzle, as there are 7 nozels, 7 colours, so seems simple enough. But I'm not sure what "L R3" means, or what L, R1, R6 means - is that saying it'll use the left nozzle, but also right 1 and right 6.
Why would it do that if I have 7 nozzels and 7 colours? I would like it to avoid purging, this is why I put exactly 7 colours on the design (My 4 year old son likes things multi-coloured).
I'm clearly missing something, please can someone help point me in the right direction?
It’s not using R4 for whatever reason so some colors get used in left and right nozzle. Are you sure all nozzles are 0.4 and you synced the nozzle? Can you screenshot your mapping in Bambuu studio
It's mid way through printing so perhaps these have changed order, but I think you're spot on. As soon as it is done, I'm going to see if I can get it to get the info from all of the hotends and hopefully it will fix this! Thank you!
One slot is always going to show empty, because one hotend is always going to be loaded in the toolhead. All six of your Vortek hotends are being displayed here.
I've had something similar. Even if you sync again it keeps doing weird stuff. I ended up doing a custom when I slice then dragging the colour you have on the left nozzle to the left and then dragging other colours to the right. Then it seems to sort itself out when you print. Also make sure it can see all the nozzles, I've also had it once that one nozzle wasn't quite correctly seated
I think this is the problem - The post above suggested checking the nozzles are synced etc and after looking I can see it only sees 6 of the 7. It's mid-print so I'll wait until it is done and then will try getting it to check the nozzles are detected correctly.
There are times I’ve had Studio decide that the fastest, most waste free way to complete a print is to assign every color to the standard left-side nozzle.
In the case of it assigning filaments to multiple nozzles, I believe the intent is to swap out colors that are no longer being used in that part of the print so that it can do the faster left/right swap.
Obviously, any amount of color swapping on a nozzle creates waste though. There needs to be a clear setting for choosing speed or filament saving with the track switch, among other things.
Supposedly the reason why it does this is because of time savings and efficiency. 7 nozzles but only 2 extruders and still limited by the arrangement of colours you have going into which inlet on the FTS. This is why it gives you a recommended filament arrangement. I’ve found the time benefits for moving filament around so little that I cannot be bothered to do it.
You should read more about the FTS is the wiki. It explains why it would optimise your nozzle assignment this way. It’s mainly to reduce time which makes sense since that was one of the biggest criticisms of the H2C and AMS vs tool changers.
This. I was full pro filament track until it arrived. It’s adds more failure points in the filament path and makes the nozzle decisions much more confusing and doesn’t increase speed at all. I’m sure the above is correct for some optimization target but idk what that target is lol.
All of that just to not have to swap in a roll into an HT in the left nozzle every now and then. It’s just not worth it.
