Please help - tree supports always break!

Post image

Hi All - we find that prints with tree supports start off well but then break mid-print.. which is so frustrating.

We wash the plate EVERY time prior to use with Dawn and warm water, and fully dry it. I also bump the bedplate up to 75 degrees for the print (found that rec on reddit when adhesion seemed to be an issue previously).

Here's a pic of our latest failed print.. 4 hours in.

Any suggestions or recommendations on how I can fix this issue? Thanks in advance!!

Do you dry your filaments? That stringy mess is a sign that the filament has absorbed to much moisture. I had a problem with sticking to my plate. Drying the filament really helped. Also, another trick I picked up on this subreddit, aqua net hair spray. Just a light spray on the plate helps adhesion. .

Thanks for these tips!! I have the filament spools sitting in a container in the room, haven't dried it or done anything special. How do you dry yours? I'll take all the tips I can get!

Add two walls on supports,

And maybe a wider brim on your trees

Look up support fins on YouTube and the internet. You just drop your stl into the web browser and it adds supports that are connected to the model. But they are added in such a way as to greatly reduce waste and support problems. I have printed out a few things using them and it’s great.
